The Viggo Squee Post
Sep. 13th, 2006 12:40 amI got to meet Viggo Mortensen!
Okay, when I say meet, I mean I joined the throng in front of the Ryerson theatre tonight before the Alatriste premiere and asked him to sign my copy of Coincidence of Memory.
Here's the extent of my interaction:
Viggo: Who's should I make it out to?
Me: Pauline.
Viggo: Polly?
Me: Uh, no. Pauline.
Viggo: Oh. Like The Perils of.
Me: Yep.
I somehow refrained from mentioning the fact that The Perils of Pauline has been the bane of my existence since I learned about it, though I did tell him I've been following his career since The Indian Runner.
In the greater scheme of things, it was a small moment, but it totally put a smile on my face. Viggo was kind to all the fans there, very generous of his time and seems like a genuinely nice guy.
Aiding and abetting my fangirl moment was my Sweetie, who nobly got to the theatre two hours early to score a good spot in line so I could go out for a nice dinner with two very good friends. (Hey Nad and Sandy!). The Sweetie was rewarded for his good deed when the entire cast sat two rows in front of him for the screening, and Viggo stood right in front of him for the standing ovation at the end. (I, alas, was not there since the three of us had decided to try the front row. Note to Self: The front row at the Ryerson? Way too freaking close.)
To further round out the experience, David Cronenberg was in the audience, and Viggo planted a big kiss on him at the end of the screening. They're so cute together.
I'm still a low tech, film-in-camera kinda gal, so I can't post any pics right now, but if any of mine turn out, I'll have them up eventually.
Oh, and the film? Pretty darn good. I'll post a proper review once I've had some sleep.
