...And the music gods taketh away.

The Good News
Police guitarist Andy Summers will be doing a Toronto signing of his new autobiography. It'll be this Friday, October 13, 7 p.m. in the Chapters at John and Richmond. Yay! Stewart and Andy in one year. How cool is that?

The Bad News
The Scissors Sisters just cancelled tonight's Toronto date at the Kool Haus. Their drummer threw out his back and they've already cancelled the Minneapolis and Chicago dates. Bummer. I was looking forward to the gig. Had a crazy outfit all
laid out and everything.

Agreed. The albums he did with RF are exceptional. Wonder why nobody ever talks about them?

I rather suspect most people just don't know about them. Except guitar geeks. Which is really too bad.

Which leads us to the question:

Robert Fripp, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Paige and....
(top 5?)

Well, sorry. Forgot to put the man at the top of the list, Eric Clapton.

(Replying to this one, so you actually see it.)

Ya know, I actually despise Eric Clapton. I don't understand the appeal at all.

My top five? Fripp and Vaughn, obviously. Summers, of course. Steve Howe. And Robbie Robertson, because he kicked Clapton's arse in The Last Waltz.

Anything he's written in the last 20 is utter crap for terms of lyrics. But the guitarwork? Oh man....I'll take any of his Cream stuff versus just about anyone.

Steve Howe? Oh yes. Yes. Did you ever buy any stuff in the Asia days? Guilty pleasure, that.

I suppose he's acceptable in Cream. But man, if I hear Layla one more time, I'll scream.

Steve Howe, on the other hand, is awesome. But then I'm a prog girl from way back. And yeah, I've got the first two Asia albums on vinyl. (Don was recently looking for them on CD. There's a Best of, but they've re-recorded all the early singles, Minus Mr. Howe. Sacrilege.)

Tell Don I owe him for the info. I was set to buy this recently, but now? Not a chance.

Don's going to try to digitize my vinyl. I'll sling you a copy if he gets around to it. (His big project is ripping all his CDs first. He's been working on it for about three years. He just finished the letter "J".)

"J" huh? I'll be holding my breath for this, then. *g*

Mind you, he was all enthused about the Asia stuff, so it may happen sooner than, say next decade.

I have a boot of Fripp in Japan that I'll have to burn for you. It is out-fucking-rageous.
