I've been enjoying everyone else's answers to this, and the baby just went for an extremely early nap, so here are my responses to...

...the Me Meme

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
My paternal grandmother, with whom I share a first and last name. Which gave me a bit of a turn when I came across her headstone in a cemetary in my dad's hometown in Latvia.

2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
Possibly the last time I tried to read our Chinese adoption storybook with our daughter. (I don't cry often, but I cannot get through that book without losing it.)

3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
I have carefully cultivated near illegible handwriting so I can write slash in meetings with no one being the wiser. So, yes, and yet no.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
If I must eat lunch meat, fresh sliced rosemary ham.

5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
Yep, one very busy 18 month old.

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
Probably.

7. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT?
Um, yeah. I learned at the feet of the master: my mom. (When an ex-boyfriend asked why I couldn't be nicer, a friend who'd known me a looong time asked "Has he met your mother?")

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS?
Tonsils, yes. Adenoids, no.

9. DO YOU COOK/BAKE?
Cook, every day. Bake, not nearly as often as I'd like.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL?
It rotates on a regular basis, but currently it's Red River cereal.

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF?
A wise friend told me to get non-lace up shoes I can kick on and off when I became a mom. I did and I do. Kick them on and off, that is.

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG?
Physically, not as much as I used to be. Mentally and emotionally, yeah, pretty much.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM?
Dulce de leche from The Big Scoop on College St., Little Italy, Toronto. The Haagen Dazs version will do in a pinch.

14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?
Whether I get a good vibe off them or not.

15. RED OR PINK?
Burgundy!

16.WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
My ability to completely avoid certain tasks long past the time they need to be done.

17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?
My good friend, J.B., who died of complications from a bone marrow transplant meant to treat his lymphoma, this time last year.

18. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE?
Shredded wheat cereal. Exciting, no?

19. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?
CBC Radio Two (classical) and the little girl's breathing as she sleeps in her playpen.

20. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE?
Forest Green

21. FAVORITE SMELLS?
I've got the world's lousiest sense of smell, but hmmm, I am fond of citrus-y sorts of smells.

22. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
The Sweetie, to let him know the little girl had, as he'd predicted, crashed early and hard.

23. FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH?
I've gotten out of the habit, but back in the day, basketball and English-type football.

24. HAIR COLOR?
Chestnuty brown

25. EYE COLOR?
Hazel, though the Sweetie calls me Yellow Eyes.

26. FAVORITE FOOD?
Salt baked squid. Yummy.

27. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS?
Can I pick magnificent tragedy instead?

28. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED?
On DVD, The Lives of Others, which is utterly fascinating. In the theatre, Sweeney Todd.

29. SUMMER, WINTER, SPRING OR AUTUMN?
Autumn. Love the smell of it. (Okay, maybe my sense of smell isn't that bad.)

30. HUGS OR KISSES?
Depends on the person.

31. FAVORITE DESSERT?
Creme caramel. Or maybe key lime pie.

Don't have one.

Salt baked squid.

Ew. I should talk, though... I drink pickle juice. ;-)

It's awesome, man. Tender and crispy and garlicky good.

But pickle juice? Wow, that's hardcore.

This was awesome, but...

Really?

Hmm. Must ponder this. ;-)

The first time I tried it was at a friend's behest and I was skeptical. But man, it's good. I now try it any time I find it on the menu of a Chinese restaurant.

The Sweetie and I managed to impress the waiter in this street restaurant in a night market in Hong Kong when we ordered that instead of something safe and touristy. Though admittedly, not as much as we impressed the waiter in this little joint in Tsim Sha Tsui where no one spoke English when I managed to order congee in Cantonese.

You are my Chinese food ordering idol. :-)

P.S. You up for betaing a 1,000 word Pros story? I'm about half done (which is pathetic, I know, given that I started it on Friday--but you know how slow I am).

Sure. When do you need it done by? (Rosalind's in high nutty mode these days, so I tend to be knackered, but I can surely turn 1,000 words around fairly quickly.)

BTW, remember how many moons ago you said I needed to up the Doyle angst factor in my neverending Pros novel? Well, I figured out how to do it over the weekend and I've now got three new scenes written. I may actually have a finished first draft before I go back to work. Yay!

Oh, hon! It's not due till February 28th. I just want to get it finished. I thought you were writing one.

That's the one! I kind of want to knock mine out because I have an idea for a S&H AU that's burning a hole in my brain.

I hit the send button too quickly.

Yay you for figuring out Doyle Angst!! Could it be? Do we think the never-ending Bodie-centric Irish extravaganza may one day see the light of day?!

One can only hope.
