It's March, which means it's time to pull out the Bucky icon for another year. And he'll get a bit more time than last year, since Wisconsin has actually made it to the Sweet Sixteen next weekend. Hoorah!

CBS, damn them, only showed the first half of the Badger's first game against Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night. Which probably isn't too bad a thing, since I was trying to watch it with a migraine. (For the record, watching basketball with a migraine? Really bad idea. All that quick movement and the squeaking of basketball shoes on hardwood... shudder.)

To make up for this glaring oversight, they showed pretty much the entire game against Kansas State this afternoon. And after a bit of a rough start, the Badgers pretty much dominated the game, winning by nearly 20 points.

The next game is next Friday against Georgetown. (Hey there, [livejournal.com profile] ancastar!) I'll be attending our local SF con, Ad Astra, next weekend, but I'm hoping to adjust my sked around Wisconsin's games. 'Cause a girl's gotta have her priorities. *g*

Do we know what day(s) we're attending Ad Astra?

The schedule still isn't up on their website, which is typical for the con.

I'm definitely planning on going Saturday. I'm going to hook up with a friend, [livejournal.com profile] canadiansuzanne, after she does a panel at 1. I'll probably aim for being there early-ish.

I may go for at least a few hours on Sunday too. A friend from work (she's had a few stories published in Strange Horizons and On Spec) is planning on going that day.

The only fly in the ointment is going to be transport. The hotel is in the middle of construction (oh joy) and has restricted parking, so I'm not sure how easy it's going to be to drive. I may just TTC it.

D'oh! The sked is up: http://www.ad-astra.org/Schedule.php

My plan is hit the con at 10, do a few panels, hit my friend's reading at 3:30, hang with her. Any of that sound groovy to you?

Too bad there isn't a printable version, but I'll live.

It's awkward to get to on the TTC. They're doing all valet parking. I've told Paul I'm either taking the car or he can drive me there if he wants the car for the day. Why don't I pick you up?

Hey there, ancastar!

Hey there! March Madness is probably both the best time around ol' GU and the worst. The best because people are excited, there's lots going on, and the university is in the news. The worst because all my co-workers are scrambling to get tickets for people (or explaining why they can't), flying all over the place to games, and basically just working twice as hard as they normally do (and these people are no slouches). Everyone is exhausted by April.

Which is just in time for reunion... ;-)

Sounds like...fun? I stupidly never tried to see even a regular season game while I was at UW, though I now regret it. (Stoopid grad school, taking up all my time.) I content myself with watching on TV. Would be fun, though.

I did, however, make sure I saw the Celtics every time they played either Chicago or Milwaukee while I was in Madison. I was a huge fan at the time, though that love didn't survive the retirement of Bird, McHale and Parrish.

Obviously, this is all a moot point, considering we blew a 17 point lead to Davidson. Davidson! I ask you...

I saw my first live basketball game just a couple of months back. It was a lot of fun. I'd do it again. That night, we won. :-)

Go Badgers!

I must have checked the bracket when you had the lead and figured it was safe. Davidson, huh? Well, that's good for us Badgers. Maybe.

Go Badgers!

Should you ever wish to travel back to the Homeland, please know that you always have an airmatress to sleep on at my house... And be aware that if you ever come to town and you *don't* tell me, I will have your head on a pike. ;-)

I'll consider myself welcome. And, um, warned. *g*

But seriously, if I'm ever back Madison way (and I might, since I've got family in both Chicago and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and Madison's smack between 'em) then I shall definitely let you know. And we shall hang. And perhaps go to Pasquale's (yum) and Michael's (double yum).

Have fun at Ad Astra! I see their website still sucks.

I miss having LOCAL cons to go to.

Any interest in going to WorldCon in Montreal in 2009?

You'd think an SF con would have a better website. Oy.

As for WorldCon, yes! I told Don about it and we might make a family trip of it. (He and the little girl could go hang and do kiddie stuff whilst I went to the con.
