Well, I've edited and re-edited (thanks [livejournal.com profile] ancastar!), crafted a cover letter, tweaked the cover letter (thanks [livejournal.com profile] storm_grant!), and finally hit send. And now my first submission to a professional publication (well, okay, semi-pro) has been sent off into the ether.

Worst case scenario: I'll have my first professional rejection letter. *g*

I've had one rejection this year already!

I am going to try to whip something else into shape in the next month or so and get it out there.

My problem is its too freaking long! I need to trim it if anyone is seriously going to look at it.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

You're one up on me, then.

Length is an issue. I never used to be able to write a story shorter than 15,000 words. Writing challenge stories has helped with that, so I can pull one in under 5,000 words these days and have it make sense. Good luck with the editing.

Fingers crossed indeed.

I'm really not expecting to sell anything the first time out of the gate, but I'm sort of enjoying the whole process. And it's kind of a kick, coming up with my own canon after so many years of writing fanfic.

Oh, cool! It takes a lot of courage to do that, so you can at least be proud of yourself that way. I am very impressed! Good luck, and I shall hope for the best for you! (I also, of course, have a great deal of confidence in you!)

I don't know if it was courage as much as stupidity, but at least I had fun writing the story. And I think I've managed to create a world I can have some fun playing around in.

Now, hopefully, I can get around to the next edits on the Pros novel. If this darn Ultraviolet vid will leave me alone, that is.

I don't know that it's an accomplishment yet, but it's kinda fun to have done it. Huge hug back for the support!

Tis an accomplishment, sweetie. Whether you get published or not. Your own canon, eh?? Bet that was fun to create.

Your own canon, eh??

Okay, dirty little secret? Two of the characters started out as Bodie and Doyle avatars. And the story itself started off as a total rewrite of Of Moggies and Tigers. But the plot took a sharp left turn and the characters are starting to veer away from their originals and are well on their way to developing their own personalities and back stories. (I'm starting to think I might be able to get at least one novel out of them. Which would be fun.)

what is the article about?

Is it fiction or nonfiction? Where did you send it ? More details, talented woman!
Hugs from Nevada.

Not just fiction, but fantasy. I'm submitting to the anthology Lace and Blade 2, mostly because the call sounded like too much fun. (Musketeers-like swashbuckling with magic, a hint of eroticism, and an openness to "alternative sexuality?" I can totally do that.)

Now I just have to wait for a response and try to keep from checking my email every five seconds.

Big hugs back from Toronto.
