Everyone else is doing it, and I couldn't resist...

Think about your teenage crushes and make a list (between 5-10 of them). Then let us know:

1) Who?
2) Add a picture if you want to (not essential)
3) Why?
4) Do you still like them now?

In chronological order, 10 of P's early crushes... (And I have to admit I cheated and went back to my earliest ever crushes, which were pretty early indeed.)

Spock. My first memory of watching TV is of Star Trek (I was 4, the episode was the Galileo Seven, and the caveman guys with the spears scared the crap out of me), and it was definitely my first fannish love. And all because of Spock, rational hero and tormented outsider. Sigh. Still completely love him.

Kirk Douglas. Saw 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Grade One, and fell completely for Kirk Douglas. This crush was solidified when I saw Spartacus a few years later. Definitely still does it for me, especially some of the more cynical roles he did, like Billy Wilder's Ace in the Hole, and Vincente Minelli's The Bad and the Beautiful. Plus I loved that he helped break the Hollywood black list by insisting the Dalton Trumbo get screen credit for Spartacus.

James Mason. Also in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea; also fell immediately for him. I never could resist the brooding, tormented genius type. I still adore Mason. Though I did wonder about my pre-adolescent psyche when I recently saw The Seventh Veil again. Mason basically plays a controlling psychopath, but I remember completely rooting for him to get the girl in that film when I was 10.

Ronald Coleman. Coleman always played the gentleman, and that's part of his appeal. He could also handle a sword nicely, as he proved in the 30's version of The Prisoner of Zenda, which is where I saw him first. But the thing I love him in most is Random Harvest, a weepy melodrama which gets to me every time. (The movie is also the basis for Rhiannon's Veils of the Morning, a Pros AU I utterly adore.)

Starsky & Hutch. I was 10 when the show premiered, and it was a weekly ritual to watch it with my mom. (Though I am alternately amazed and appalled that she let a 10 year old watch a show this violent.) I had a slight preference for Hutch at the time, have a slight preference for Starsky now, but to this day it's really all about the partnership.

Apollo, version 1. I saw the movie version of Battlestar Galactica when it played on TV and immediately fell for Apollo. (Most of my pals who saw it went for Starbuck.) Richard Hatch does nothing for me now, and the original Apollo is a bit too goody-goody for my present taste, though I am very fond of Jamie Bamber's Apollo in the new BSG.

Lawrence of Arabia. When I was fifteen, the Buffalo PBS station show Lawrence three times in one week. With pledge breaks. I watched it all three times, and still wanted more. I've totally lost track of the number of times I've seen this movie, both on the big and small screen. O'Toole's portrayal of Lawrence--smart, insecure, arrogant, brilliant, and so very, very gay--completely captivated me, and still does. The oh so very slashy relationship the movie Lawrence shares with Omar Sharif's Ali doesn't hurt either.

Michael Biehn. One of my best friends in high school had both a subscription to the movie channel and one of the first commercial VCRs. We taped The Terminator and watched it over and over again, mostly to admire the, um, assets of Michael Biehn as he comes through the time vortex. Naked. I still appreciate him in the film. The nakedness doesn't hurt, but now I mostly love the combination of toughness and vulnerability he manages as Kyle Reese. He was also fab, for pretty much the same reasons, in Aliens. (The toughness and vulnerability, anyway. There is, alas, no naked Biehn in Aliens.)

Snake Plissken. Another high school cable TV find. I love Snake's toughness and his refusal to back down even in the face of stupidly high odds. Plus, I thought he was pretty hot. Do I still like him? I've got a Snake action figure on my desk.

Illya Kuryakin/David McCallum. The Man from UNCLE started airing a year before I was born, but I didn't catch it until the CBC started running the series when I was 18. If fell immediately for McCallum's Illya Kuryakin. (I'd been primed by fond viewing of McCallum in both The Invisible Man and Kidnapped.) Still completely love both the character and the actor, but now that I'm older, I've gained an appreciation for Robert Vaughn's Solo.

Ah, Ronald Colman! *sigh*

Beautiful man with a gorgeous voice...

Random Harvest always leaves me a snivelling wreck (as does Veils of Morning, I should add...)

He was utterly lovely. And yes, that voice.

One of my favourite moments in life was finally making the Sweetie watch Random Harvest. He went in all skeptical, but by the end he was as into it as I was. (He's also convinced it's the ur-amnesia story, from which all other amnesia stories flow. And I'm not about to convince him otherwise.)

It's a pic of Spock I'd never seen before (and that's saying something) so I had to post it. And I endeavour to be interesting. *g*

My first thought when I saw this meme was Apollo and Starbuck from BSG and it was fun to see Apollo appear on your list! He was probably my first-ever crush — I guess I was about 8. Then we moved to Australia, had access to UK programming and my attention switched to Doyle!

Apollo! (I think I was 11 when Battlestar aired for the first time.)

I would totally have been all over Doyle at the time, but I was nearly 30 before I got my grubby little paws on Pros eps.

I still say Peter O'Toole was one of the most beautiful men ever. :D

I love Ronald Colman and I was beside myself with excitement when Turner released Random Harvest on to DVD. I have to admit though to loving Douglas Fairbanks, Jr best in The Prisoner of Zenda. :D

I'm a bit of an old film buff.

I'm with you on Peter O'Toole. He is exquisite in Lawrence.

I bought Random Harvest the week it was released and watched it immediately. And I can understand your Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. love in Zenda. He is an awesome Rupert of Hentzau. And Raymond Massey's not too bad as Black Michael either.

(I'm an old film buff myself.)

I have a thing for the buckling of Swashes too so Errol Flynn always makes it on to the list. I always wanted to see Errol go up against Douglas Fairbanks, Jr in more ways than one. *g*

Have you ever seen What's New Pussycat?"

It's terminally silly but Peter is downright beautiful and well, Sellers...

Flynn vs. Fairbanks. Now there's a thought. *veg*

And wow, O'Toole is gorgeous in that clip. And the movie does look silly in a fab way. Shall have to check it out.

You know what? James Mason in breeches fencing in Prisoner of Zenda does all sorts of funny things to me... always has!

And then there's the little blond guy. ;)

Yep, absolutely. And it doesn't hurt that his opponent in that film is Stewart Granger, who almost made this list (I've seen Scaramouche about a bazillion times) until I realized I'd completely forgotten poor S&H.

Ah, the little blond guy. ::dreamy sigh::

Stewart Granger has never done anything for me, I have to say. Now Richard Widmark, on the other hand... ;)

From: [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
Granger only does it for me in Scaramouche and Zenda, but in those...yowza! Mason, I'll watch in pretty much anything.

Widmark is an interesting one. I don't think he's particularly hot, but he's a really interesting actor. Especially in things like Pickup on South Street.
