More LotR Adventures in New Zealand
Apr. 10th, 2003 11:02 amHow could I forget the Te Papa Tongarewa museum in Wellington!
They had a huge LotR exhibit on, with a large number of costumes, props and bits of sets. Also a ton of video interviews explaining various steps of the filming process that I can only hope are on The Two Towers DVD. It was a stunning collection and took the better part of three hours to take in.
My favourite moment was when my partner and I were listening to the audio commentary by Barrie Osborne, explaining how Viggo Mortensen convinced the entire cast and crew to camp out on location so they could get a sunrise shot of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. At that point, my partner gave me an evil grin and said "That Viggo's a menace." Yup, and that's why we love him.
My favourite part of the exhibit was Boromir. No, really. They have the silicon model of Boromir that was used for the final shot of him in the funeral boat. It's all there, the boat, Boromir, the cloven Horn of Gondor. It's eerily realistic and gave me a chance to mourn the character all over again. Though, I have to say, if I was Sean Bean, the existence of this thing would weird me out.
