Odds and Sods
Jun. 24th, 2009 11:11 pmIt's been a crazy week. I started it off by accidentally cracking my head on a doorframe Sunday. (As if one would do that on purpose.) I didn't lose consciousness, thankfully, but I was dizzy and nauseous for the better part of 24 hours. I used up a sick day on Monday, and slept far too much and watched episodes of Merlin (which, if not the Best Show Ever, is certainly fun crack) and Wallander (nice to see Branagh acting again).
I had to upgrade my work laptop to Office 2007, on account of me training it in three days! (No, I'm not panicking. Honest.) And of course that bollocksed up the Word doc of my Pros novel that I've been using to produce a PDF for the zine. Spent most of today sorting out headers and footers and styles and cursing Microsoft programmers. (Shhh, don't tell my boss. And anyway, it ended up being a great test case for me learning how the bloody new interface works.)
I've been in touch with the print shop that will be printing the zine. I'm just waiting for a few technical details and a quote. This, at least is exciting. (I'm just trying to figure out how many copies to have done. Expect a poll soon.)
And finally, I had a friend at work take a new picture of me that I can use on company websites and in Webex training, on account of the fact that I hate the official pic of me. And shockingly, it didn't turn out too badly. I'm especially chuffed that my arms are looking rather buff. All that lifting a toddler is apparently a better work out than I thought. (And no, I wasn't consciously imitating my icon. *g*)

Date: 2009-06-25 03:59 am (UTC)Ouch to bumping your head. Have you learned nothing from watching Pros? That's the sort of thing stuntmen are for... *nods sagely*
They've started showing Merlin here on NBC and I hadn't bothered to get it from England 'cos my mates had told me it was "crap but fun" and that just didn't motivate me enough to worry about hunting it down. They're right though, it is seriously stupid stuff but it *is* fun to watch... well, at least the first two episodes have been.
Well... you claim not to be imitating your icon but hey, even the t-shirt matches. *g* It's a very cool piccie where you manage to look tough, capable, very smart and like you might be about to snigger so I'd say that's a great work photo for someone in the training business.:D

Date: 2009-06-25 10:06 am (UTC)No Canadian network picked up Merlin, so I'm watching it on NBC. I didn't think I'd like it, on account of Merlin and Arthur being infants (seriously, what are they, like, twelve) but then a cunning LJ friend pointed me to a couple of youtube clips of them being all snarky and protective of each other. Snark and protectiveness I canNOT resist. It definitely falls into the crap but fun end of the entertainment spectrum, though.
Tough, capable, smart and about to snigger, huh? I can go with that description. *g*

Date: 2009-06-25 07:29 am (UTC)Very iconic photo *g* - drayce is right, it must have been at the back of your mind, providing inspiration when this was taken! You look very "bring it on" in this pic (it's the hint of a raised eyebrow, I think)(and yes, toddler-lifting - which I no longer practise - is hard work; only trouble is that the load tends not to be symmetrically distributed).

Date: 2009-06-25 10:07 am (UTC)Me, raising an eyebrow? Never!
And yeah, the toddler-lifting is great for the arms, but not so great for the rest of me. I so need to get back to the gym.

Date: 2009-06-25 07:43 am (UTC)Very nice photo :D - it's amazing how good small kids are for workouts, especially in the forearms.

Date: 2009-06-25 10:09 am (UTC)The little 'un has been great for my forearms, but now I've just got to get the rest of me back in shape. *g*

Date: 2009-06-25 10:33 am (UTC)Like the photo - and it is very Doyle-ish, but then that's never a bad thing, is it? *g*

Date: 2009-06-25 12:34 pm (UTC)I'm rather pleased to be Doyle-ish. But then, I would. *g*

Date: 2009-06-25 10:50 am (UTC)I'm glad you're okay! At least you didn't need stitches like I did, but I wasn't dizzy or sick. So you really blasted yourself, eh?
Is it con time yet? *g*

Date: 2009-06-25 12:36 pm (UTC)Stitches! I've never had stitches. Well, not that didn't involve major surgery, anyway. And I probably should have had them once, but I cut my finger ten minutes before I was leaving for the airport and decided to self-bandage and ooze blood for hours rather than miss my flight. (Still have that scar.)
The con cannot come too soon. *g*

Date: 2009-06-25 02:03 pm (UTC)Ha ha. ;)
Officially, it's not a concussion if you don't lose consciousness. Which wasn't really a whole lot of comfort when I was feeling like crap for a day.

Date: 2009-06-26 02:54 am (UTC)The hair is a trip. I'm fond of the glasses too. (They're actually just reading glasses, but I wore them for the pic to mitigate my usual tendency to blink not too attractively when confronted with a flash. And it worked!)
See ya in three weeks!
