Since I've only a vague idea of how many copies I should have printed, I thought I'd do a poll to see how many of you are interested in ordering my Pros novel, Exile.

And what is Exile about? When Bodie is sent on a secret mission to Northern Ireland, Bodie and Doyle's budding relationship is tested. While Bodie confronts his family history and infiltrates an IRA cell, Doyle struggles with the knowledge that the man he's come to love might just be a traitor.

Full colour cover and 4 (maybe 5) internal illustrations by Lorraine Brevig. 83,000 words, 134 pages. (EDIT, because [livejournal.com profile] partners4life asked, I'm going to be selling it myself, not using an agent.)

So here's the poll. (Note: this is just to gauge interest. I'll be posting actual pre-ordering information once I have a quote from the printer and a price for postage.)

[Poll #1421103]

Feel free to pass the link for the poll to anyone not on LJ.

Wheeee zine! *g*

I want to put yes, but I'd hate to lead you on because it depends a little bit on how much it will cost... D'you have even a vague guess that will mean I can tick? <US$20/30/40/50? Ish? With no-being-held-to-it? *g*

I'm waiting for a quote from the printer, and part of that depends on how many copies they're printing, but I'm really hoping I can keep it to around $20-ish, plus postage.

You are quick! *g* And in that case... (I was pretty sure you weren't gonna say summat silly like US$40, but those kind of prices are around, so I wanted to check... *g*) Thank you!

My goal is to a) share the novel with other fen and b) not lose money. If I can do both those without charging something crazy, so much the better. (I've run sample numbers without input from the printer, and the price is possibly do-able. But I'm also using good quality stock and perfect binding--because I'm only doing this once and I want it to look goooood--so I'm not sure how much that all is going to run.)

What's the word count?

From: [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
A few words shy of 83,000. Typeset and with the illustrations, it's 152 pages.

Actually make that 134 pages of text. The 154 includes things like chapter breaks and the blank sides of illustrations.

Hmmmm... Would be nice if you could tell me if it's NO death fic...! Because that's a 'no go' for me.
(Maybe in a personal message, if you don't want to spoil everybody?)

Thank you!

I would love to read one of your long stories!

I can't wait to read it! This novel is travelling with me on my Caribbean cruise in August. (It *will* be here by late August, right?) The story blurb sounds intriguing and I adore your writing. This is fabulous news!

I'll be mailing out Canadian orders as soon as I get back from Close Quarters, so if you don't have it, Canada Post will have some explaining to do. *g*

Oh, I forgot to ask. :)
Have you written any other Zines? Pros? or other?

Date: 2009-06-28 06:34 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
I've been in other anthologies (Pros, MFU and Wild Wild West, primarily) but this is the first full novel I've written.

You can find the MFU and Wild Wild West stuff at http://users.frii.com/wanderer/zines.html . The most recent Pros stuff was in Never Far Apart.

BTW, not that the zines aren't fab, but if you're just looking for my stories, they're pretty much all posted at http://przed.com/fic
