Ros is currently cashed out beside me--she's clearly under the weather, but not nearly as bad as last night and even managed to eat some chicken noodle soup for lunch--so I thought I'd take advantage of the laptop and WiFi to post about the job stuff. (This laptop/WiFi stuff is still awesome to me. I hope I never take it for granted.)

Anyway, I got a call early last week to set up a phone screening for a job that seems like a very good fit. It's doing pretty much exactly what I was doing at my old job, and for a comparable salary with a much higher upper range that was possible at my old company. (Publishing is not where you go for the big bucks.)

The phone screening was set for Friday at 10. So just before the appointed time I set up my phone interview corner with my materials and the phone and a glass of water. And I waited. And waited.

Fifteen minutes after the interview was supposed to happen, I finally get a call from their H.R. dude. Something's come up and would I mind rescheduling for later in the day. Sure. So now it's for 12:15.

Of course, he made me wait again. Just 5 minutes this time. And it was a slightly wacky interview. I did most of the heavy lifting. He started by asking me if I had any questions. So I pretty much got to set my own agenda for the interview and highlight my strengths.

Immediately after the screening he told me they were going to ask me in for a face-to-face interview and teaching demonstration. So I'll be doing that on Thursday afternoon. I just got the topic for the demo, and it looks completely do-able. I'll be working on my materials tonight and tomorrow--the Sweetie is going to take Ros-minding duties for the day--and then Thursday we'll see how it goes. Slightly wacky H.R. dude aside, it seems like a very good opportunity. (It goes without saying, all good thoughts appreciated. Being employed again would be lovely.)

I'm so glad to read that Ros is doing better. ♥

Having worked for a number of different companies I'd be inclined to take the wacky HR guy as a good omen. Usually, whatever the corporate culture is the HR people are the most uptight extreme of it.

Ros is now at three hours and counting for the nap. Given how late she was up last night (11!) and how badly she slept the day before, I'm not surprised.

Apart from the fact that the wacky HR guy had me biting my nails for 15 minutes, it's hopefully a good sign that they've got a reasonable relaxed corporate culture.

I'm also amused that both the HR people I've talked to are guys. I was in the HR department at my last company, and the one guy was overwhelmingly outnumbered. But then I have a feeling this is going to be a very female environment, so perhaps they're just trying to balance things out.

The guy barely took a breath between my final answer in the interview, once he finally asked me a question, and telling me they were calling me in for a face-to-face, so I don't know if I aced it, or if my resume had them convinced they should take a closer look at me and they just wanted confirmation I was a decent communicator. Either way, fingers crossed for the next stage. *g*

Best of luck at the face-to-face. Sounds like the HR person may have had his mind made up before he even spoke to you so perhaps that means smooth sailing for the remainder of the process.

I have a suspicion they were pretty sure they wanted to see me in person at least. Now I just have to make sure they think I'd be the best person for the job. ::sigh::

I'm going to be glad to see the back of the ear infection years. It's a big pile of no fun. Though at least Ros is just napping the afternoon away. No more hysterical crying fits.

Here's hoping. I'm just mulling over the materials I'm going to write for the demo. With any luck I can get the bulk of it written tonight and then spend all of tomorrow tweaking and polishing until it is a thing of beauty.

The worst of the ear infection seems to be past us. Now Ros is just sleeping the day away, no doubt catching up on all the sleep she missed the last few days.

Ros is still hacking up a lung, but the earache seems to be gone. And fingers crossed on the job. It looks like a good one, and well within my skill set. Plus, it doesn't require stupid amounts of travel. Yay!

The hospital visit was an exercise in endurance. It was no doubt worse for Ros, being sick, and the Sweetie, what with being thrown up on. I'm lucky I was standing up helping the little girl with her juice when that happened. She's still a bit rough, but much better.

It does sound slightly wacky, though not necessarily horrible. I wonder how much actual interviewing this HR person typically does. I can't wait to hear how Thursday goes. I'll light a candle, say some prayers, sacrifice a goat. You know...whatever needs to be done.

Both H.R. guys were very pleasant, if a bit scattered. It's a small organization--less than a third the size of my old company, and it wasn't big itself--so I'm betting they don't do much interviewing.
