Well, Rats

It's shaping up to be not such a great week.

  • My sweetie just hit day 6 of having a fever of between 102 and 103.
  • We woke up to a leak in our living room, just below where our second floor shower is.
  • I have completely over-committed myself fannishly (7 challenge stories, 2 zines stories, both of which are due Friday, and we won't even talk about the vids I'd like to be/am working on). Right now, I'm trying to decide on a course of action: panic and do as much as I can in a flurry or roll over and give up? I suspect my actual response is going to be somewhere between the two, but things aren't looking good for the Boromir gen zine story due this week. (Gen? What's that?)

    On the other hand:

  • I'd already arranged to work on some video stuff at home today, so I was able to drive my sweetie to his doctor first thing.
  • I'd never gotten around to cancelling the home repair warranty that came with our new mortgage, so we may get off with a $50 deductible for the plumbing repair, though don't even talk to me about repairing the drywall afterward.
  • On the writing front...well, crap, there is no good news there. Sigh.

Okay, things are not quite as bad as they looked earlier today.

The plumbers came within an hour of being called, replaced a gasket, did some caulking and reckon that'll do the trick. No wall ripped out. Yay!

And whilst the plumbers were here, the sweetie returned from his doctor's with a bag of pharmaceuticals. Antibiotics for the infection he no doubt has, and antivirals because his doc thinks there's a slight chance he might have shingles. He's already looking better and even ate a whole tuna fish sandwich for lunch! (Exciting news, since at his worst on Friday night he could only manage six sad little pieces of fussili for dinner.)

The writing is still a worry, but I'm going to try not to stress about it.

One of the previously mentioned story challenges I was foolish enough to join is the next set of [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove. I claimed Bodie & Doyle for the Trouble in Paradise theme suggested by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred, who was also kind enough to beta this. I'm not going to post any of these either here or in [livejournal.com profile] the_safehouse until the whole set is done, but I'll post links to them as they appear. The first one is for Jealousy.

    One down, six to go.
