I figured there was no better day to finally put up a streamed version my I Spy vid. It was my very first vid, it's a bit rough around the edges, but it showcases a lot of what I love about Culp as Kelly Robinson.

ETA: I've put the downloadable version up on the password free version of my vid site:

Aw! You know...that got me misty. :-)

I don't know if younger fans realize just how wonderful this show is/was and how different it was when it first aired than anything else on TV. You had the international locations, the casting of an African-American as a true partner to his White costar, the famous improvisation Cosby and Culp inserted into nearly every script, and most importantly the chemistry between them. Certain things about that show might be locked in the mid-60's. But the relationship between Kelly and Scotty is as fresh today as it was 45 (yikes!) years ago. I loved that show.

And Robert Culp will be missed.

I got a bit misty watching it to test the encoding.

What amazed me when I finally saw the show is how well it still holds up. It's far more real politik than most of the other shows of the time. The location shooting on international locations makes it stand out even today. And the Cosby and Culp chemistry is outstanding.

Culp will definitely be missed.

Thanks for this. (Posting it, definitely. But even more: making it. I've always been so glad you did! *hug*)

I'm glad I made it too. And thank you for assisting a poor newbie vidder find the clips she needed. (I really am going to have to remaster this someday. The dropped frames and slightly off edits are like a knife in my heart every time I watch it now.)

I first saw this show with my American flat mates, one of whom was a HUGE fan. I got quite the indoctrination and really enjoyed it although it was never a slash thing for me.

It's a really interesting vid with an unusual choice of song and a lot of clips I really don't remember seeing.

Thanks.

When I finally got a chance to watch the show, I was surprised at just how good it is. I mean, I adore UNCLE, but in many ways it's not a good show. They're the worst spies in the world, for a start. But Scotty and Kelly are real, adult guys, facing real, adult dilemmas in the spy game.

Plus, it doesn't hurt that I'm a big h/c fan, and Kelly is the biggest angst puppy in fandom.

Ya know, I was originally saving this song for a Pros vid, but I got sick of waiting for the DVDs to come out. Which tells you how long ago I made the vid.

As I was saying earlier elsewhere, "adoring" and "quality" don't necessarily go hand in hand. *g* I'm a big fan of The Avengers too so that should tell you something about my taste for campy 60s things.

Then I'm doubly glad I made it. I'm so glad we made the connection, even if we don't chat as much anymore. (Darn RL anyway.)

I watched I Spy first run at the age where I'd begun to be aware of the world beyond my history and my own arms' reach. It formed and shaped me, and it definitely spoiled me for shows since that have not progressed but regressed in how they handled all types of relationships. I Spy set me up for disappointment, but it also inspired me.

Is there a download link for this vid?

ETA: I found you by a link in [livejournal.com profile] morgandawn's DW.

I was a bit too young to watch it in first run, and then didn't get hold of copies until a local station started playing it maybe ten years ago, but when I finally did get to watch it, it blew me away. It is such a good show, and yes, extremely progressive even by today's standards.

I'm just getting the .avi up on my site. I'll post the link when it's done.

I always loved this vid, and I think I never told you. Shame on me!
And I believe it's an amazing way to say good bye to Robert. :(
To me, he always would be Kelly. I just love that show so much! I think today I'll do my own homage with a marathon of I, Spy.

Oh, it's so nice to see this again (even if it did make me teary) I love this show and this relationship. Robert Culp may be gone but my crush on him isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Here's a few of my faves, with the warning that I have a fondness for h/c:

Bet Me a Dollar Kelly bets Scotty he can hide from him, unaware that he's been infected by anthrax.

It's All Done With Mirrors: Kelly is brainwashed to kill Scotty. This is where the last scene in the vid is from.

Vendetta: Kelly is kidnapped by a family who blames him for the death of their son in Korea.

Trial By Treehouse: While undercover, Scotty thinks Kelly is dead.

Cops and Robbers: Scotty's mom (who is awesome) is placed in danger by an old friend of Scotty's

The Lotus Eater: Scotty tracks Kelly down to a Greek island, where he's disappeared.

Home to Judgment: Kelly and Scotty, on the run from enemy agents, hide out at Kelly's aunt and uncle's farm. (Written by Culp, and one of the best episodes.)

That oughta get you started.

I asked for your video-password more than a year ago - it's really great. Many of the chosen scenes have dark and intense emotions - maybe your next vid could show the other side to round ist - the lightness, the bantering, the playfulness? There were wonderful together, and it is so sad Robert Culp died.

I've had a lighter song picked out for an I Spy vid for years. It just never seems to work it's way up to the top of the vidding queue. And it takes me ages to finish a vid these days. But maybe this is the year I'll finally do it.

It's a really wonderful show, possibly the best of the '60s spy shows. You should totally check it out.
