Tonight I:
  • Did the solo mom thing, whilst the Sweetie had a night out
  • Took Ros to her fave restaurant
  • Went to the park afterwards
  • Let Ros help pack for our trip after she was ready for bed
  • Made potato salad for a work potluck tomorrow
  • Packed my own stuff up for the trip
  • Opened my BB story file up and stared stupidly at it without adding a single word

Apart from the failing to write thing, and the fact that I'm now utterly knackered, it was kind of a nice evening.

Also, I acquired the first of the new BBC Sherlock movies and watched it with a pal on Monday night. I LOVED IT! Like, a lot. Loved the interaction between Freeman's Watson and Cumberbatch's Holmes, loved the way they riffed on A Study in Scarlet, loved Mycroft, loved the whole thing. I can't wait to see the next two movies.

Your evening does sound like it was fun, despite having to get stuff done for your trip.

I'm sorry about the knackered part but at least you'll get to relax for the next week and I'm sure the story will all come together then.

I haven't seen it yet as the OH wanted to watch it with me. I've been greatly encouraged by all the positive comments on it. :D

Have a safe and enjoyable trip. ♥

I knew if I waited for the Sweetie, it would be 2011 before we got around to it. I'll just have to watch it again when he gives it a go. (Oh, the sacrifices I make. *g*)

I'll be curious to hear what you think. It's not a perfect thing, but I enjoyed it an indecent amount. (The riffs on the ACD canon are possibly even more fun that in the movie.)

Well, yeah, there will eventually be a vid. (Though there's a vid for the Brett Holmes series I definitely want to make first.)

Shall have to read that link to the kink meme when I'm not, ahem, at work. *g*

Wasn't it good? Love the little trick of the visible texts. I thought the pace sagged occasionally, but for TV fare I was very impressed. Freeman was a delight, his performance speaks very well of a foil to Cumberbatch that isn't just a bland cypher. I'm very much looking forward to the next ones - here's hoping they get the money to make the rest of the books.

*g* And yes, the thought crossed my mind "they'll be a slash comm for this by morning"!

The texts seemed very much what a modern Holmes would do, a nice update to the telegrams in the canon. (Loved the "Come if convenient." "If inconvenient, come anyway." texts.)

And Freeman was indeed delightful. I was a bit worried about his casting--he's always seemed a bit lightweight to me before--but he was a perfect foil to Cumberbatch, and an interesting character in his own right.

They definitely seemed to be throwing down the gauntlet for slash fans to pick up, god bless 'em. And I'm sure there's a slash comm, and I'll be joining it as soon as I get back from vacation. *g*

Sounds like a busy evening. And now I want potato salad :)

I enjoyed the new Sherlock too. I like Martin Freeman and he did well in this role. I'm looking forward to the next one.

The potato salad was awesome. (I use a yoghurt dressing with fresh dill, and it went down a treat with the new workmates.)

I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one who liked Sherlock. I've always liked Martin Freeman, but wasn't sure about him taking on Watson. I was very much surprised how very much I liked his take on the character.

I had a similar experience with Jude Law in the Holmes movie. I've always appreciated him as an actor, though never loved him, but his Watson completely made the movie. The Sweetie thinks it should be re-titled Watson!, complete with the exclamation mark.
