Just got back from seeing my first ever Toronto FC game, and it was brilliant!

They were playing Cruz Azul, a Mexican team, as part of the CONCACAF Champions League. A work pal who is a seasons ticket holder fully expected Toronto to be blown out, but they won! In fact, they led the whole game, after scoring the first pretty awesome goal in the third minute.

And as if seeing a cracking good football match wasn't good enough, I also found out that they sell chip butties at the Toronto FC BMO Field. I didn't have one, but I'm going to the next game I go to. And I'm totally going to another one.

I can't wait until Ros is old enough to take her to a game. (After a season where she mostly wanted to play goal--which she is pretty good at--or sulk on the sidelines, Ros finally seemed to get soccer last week. In the last five minutes of the game, she suddenly perked up, scored two goals, and took the ball away from a couple of kids. It was awesome to watch.)

And now I want to get back into playing again. Another friend has expressed interest. Hmmm. I wonder if we can find a women's league for the fall season...

*sings* She's football crazy, She's football mad...

Sounds like fun. I haven't been to a football match in two years.

It is fun to try to describe a chip butty to American friends. Their dawning look of horror...

This was my first pro live football match ever. It will not be my last.

I've never actually tried a chip butty, but they fascinate me.

You've never *made* a chip butty?

I was stunned to find out that people sold them when Siskiou mentioned it in her current UK trip.

Fish and chips often came with buttered bread, so natch, you made chip butties, often with liberal doses of HP sauce. It is a KILLER carb load and I wouldn't recommend it as more than an occasional treat or perhaps as an energy source for fighting off crazed weasels. Yes.

Ah, so that's how they evolved. Makes sense now.

I'm all about the carbs (the Sweetie still tells the story of me making him potato curry with rice when we first started dating) so I'm quite sure it's right up my street. *g*
