London: Miscellaneous Stuff
Dec. 4th, 2010 10:24 amIt's nearly a week since I've gotten back (a very busy week) but I thought I'd post a few random awesome things about the trip to London, just so I remember them.
FJBryan, world's best travel companion. She knows fab restaurants in London, put up with my clothes shopping expedition down Regent St., and is more than up for filling a trip with as much theatre as possible
Coffee and croissants with the lovely
solosundance
A jetlag recovery dim sum lunch at Chuen Cheng Ku on Wardour St.
Seeing the Treasures from Budapest show at the Royal Academy of Art
Seeing Stephen Fry going into the Treasures from Budapest show
A late, long lunch at Al Waha, an awesome Lebanese restaurant on Westbourne Grove
Pie for dinner at the Newman Arms
Praline macaroons from a swank shopping arcade near the Royal Academy, courtesy of FJB who insisted, quite rightly, I had to try them
Just being in London!
There's a lot of food in that list, isn't there?
And it has nothing to do with London, but I had one more awesome thing happen this week. I arrived at work on Monday to find I'd won the 40" widescreen TV we were raffling off for charity. And this just as we were about to replace our 20-year-old tube TV with, wait for it, a 40" widescreen TV. (That's my luck used up for the next decade.)

Sounds like you had a lovely trip on all fronts and what a lovely celebrity sighting, not only Fry but the venue too.
Oh and congratulations on your win. The last actually useful thing I won in a raffle was a combination coffee and espresso maker. *strokes coffee and espresso maker fondly*

Date: 2010-12-05 03:19 am (UTC)FJB gets the credit for the Fry sighting. She elbowed me in the ribs, and I turned to see a very tall bloke in tweed and a scarf go into the Royal Academy and did the "oh my god, was that..." thing.
As for the win, it's really astounding. I generally have the most appalling luck and never count on winning anything. (I did win a breadmaker and a company Christmas part oh, nearly 20 years ago, but I think I've used the darn thing once.)

And the TV was a fab score. Of course, now we want to re-buy all our favourite movies on blu-ray, because wow, do they look amazing on it.

Date: 2010-12-04 11:02 pm (UTC)You're making me awfully homesick for London *g* It sounds like a fab trip - you even shared oxygen with Stephen Fry; how much better could it get? *g*
And congratulations on winning the new telly. Whoohoo! This is obviously the start of an amazing run of good luck for you. ::pokes tea leaves for confirmation::

Date: 2010-12-05 03:24 am (UTC)As for the telly, it was a wonderful stroke of luck, but I shan't depend on the streak continuing. Though I will enjoy it while it lasts.
