Look, I have a new Bean/Game of Thrones icon!

From which you may infer that I enjoyed episode one of Game of Thrones very much.

And I didn't even have to chastise/berate/slug the Sweetie. (Much as I love him, the Sweetie frequently has to be reminded not to harsh my buzz when we're watching something together that I'm looking forward to and he doesn't get. Epic fantasy is one of those things he doesn't get. But even he thought GoT was "pretty good." From him, I'm taking that as a ringing endorsement.)

Wasn't it excellent?? And that ending...I don't know if it was worse or better, knowing it was coming. But wow.

And Bean! Oh, Bean. I would say he's getting a bit typecast, but it's such a wonderful type that I don't even care. I think I need to go get an icon myself...

That ending is even more excruciating when you know it's coming.

As for the Bean, he's sort of been typecast for nearly two decades now. But he does the type so well I absolutely don't care.

I love Sean Bean, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch this or not. Sounds like it might be worth watching.

I love the Bean and love the books, and informed the Sweetie a year ago that we'd be getting HBO Canada to watch this. And based on the first ep, it's definitely well worth watching.

I recorded it. I was sure you would be in your element.

I am with the "sweetie" on Epic Fantasy, but willing to give it a chance.

Never read any of the books either.

You and the Sweetie are wrong as regards Epic Fantasy. I'm just sayin'. ;-)

I cut my teeth on the stuff, and it's still one of my most preferred genres. (If you ever want to try a door stop fantasy series, you could do worse than trying Martin's series.)

It's good. Very good. And poised to get better, I think.

Ah, so you've not read the books? You're definitely in for a ride.

No, I haven't but they're now on my list! I want to read The Eagle book as well. I'm actually starting the Dresden series now. I always have a list of dozens of books to read. That's good though. I can keep myself entertained for years. :) Plus I'm busy writing some silly story...

They really did a good job, didn't they? I was very pleased.

I was a bit nervous, since I'd watched the preview and didn't love it. But I loved the first ep. And I think it's bound to get even better once they really get into the meat of the story.
