Bits and Bobs

Hoorah for LJ being back up! (Not that I've had much time to be online this week, but any time I had a few minutes spare and couldn't access the site, well, pretty much sucked.
But in the meantime, I've been sort of productive! I've been making steady progress on my Pros Big Bang story. Here's the current word count:

So, I'm firmly over the minimum, which is good, but there'll still be a bit of a slog getting to the end. I can't quite believe I've come up with another plot that's going to take me 30,000 words. Well, at least there are no zombies this time. :-/ And I'm firmly in the final climactic bit, so there's lots of lovely emotional scenes I can get my teeth into, which is fun, even if, as always, I'm terrified I'm going to screw them up.
In my other fandom du jour, the Take That love also continues unabated, and seems to be transferring to my daughter quite nicely. Tonight I was on the laptop whilst she was watching The Cat in the Hat, when she happened to catch a glimpse of the pic of Mark in the glittery suit I've posted before.
Ros: Who's that?!
Me: That's Mark. He's in Take That. He's one of the guys who sings Patience.
Ros: I like that picture!
That's my girl.
She then take over the laptop and starts scrolling through my (frighteningly extensive) collection of TT pics, and asking me about the Progress tour. I am currently under orders to find pictures for her of:
The boys in the light up suits
Mark riding the giant caterpillar
Mark, barefoot on stage after his shoes got drenched in the rain
Oh, the hardship. *g*
I'm also in the last fifty pages of A Game of Thrones. I lurved the mini-series so much that I decided to re-read the first three books so I could finally read the fourth one, and then move on to the new one. I reckon I'll finish them all around Christmas. (Oh, for infinite reading time. As well as writing and vidding time, of course.)
And finally, one of our local rep houses showed Equilibrium last night, which is a huge Sean Bean guilty pleasure of mine, and I dragged along a friend and her sixteen-year-old son. The son already loved the movie--he watched it at our place once when he was babysitting--and my friend is now a new convert. It's not a great film, and there are plot holes you could drive several large lorries through, but my god, it's a nicely shot film. Plus the Bean is lovely, and it's chock full of characters actors I adore. William Fichtner! Angus MacFadyen! Sean Pertwee! And Christian Bale ain't so bad in the lead, either. ::sigh::

Date: 2011-07-30 10:41 am (UTC)I'm in the last 20 percent of the first Game of Thones book. Having seen the miniseries doesn't tamp down the enjoyment of the book at all. I'm definitely reading all of them.
You know it's your vid that got me to watch Equilibrium. I'd never seen the movie until your vid, then rushed to rent it. Great movie for the points you mentioned. It's interesting and quirky and I enjoyed it.
Good job with your BB. No zombies? I was thinking the other day how much I enjoyed your zombie apocalpyse fic last year and now bored I was trying to watch The Walking Dead. You should have written that series because yours was better and you could have given them the help they needed to keep me interested. Plus Bodie and Doyle, of course. :)

Date: 2011-07-30 12:06 pm (UTC)I'm glad I could introduce you to Equilibrium. Like I said, it's not a great film, but it puts an enormous smile on my face every time.
I nearly wrote a zombie sequel for the BB (I've got it planned out and will do it some time) but this other plot bunny jumped the queue. As for The Walking Dead, I have to say I hated it with a burning passion. It was boring, and the characters frequently behaved like idiots. Plus, there were virtually no characters I cared about. The acclaim it kept getting just baffled me.

Date: 2011-07-30 05:58 pm (UTC)Re: GoT. You know, I have no problem knowing what's going to happen. Heck, I rewatch stuff or reread stories all the time. But then, I've always said that people who complain about spoilers have convinced themselves it ruins their experience. Me, I think it hightens it. I am in control of my destiny! LOL!!!

Date: 2011-08-02 01:14 am (UTC)Heh. If only. Perhaps I shall recruit the Sweetie for snogging duty every time I finish a scene. Or get Bodie and Doyle to snog. Or both!

Date: 2011-07-30 08:54 pm (UTC)I've been listening to 'How the Mighty Fall' (IYOT not yet arrived) and OMG the acoustic of 'Believe in Boogie' actually makes the bottom fall out of my stomach with teh amazing... I'm still not so keen on some of his 'hurt me, walk over me, destroy me if you want' style lyrics in some songs but it's bloody powerful all the way, and I love a lot of the tracks. I did have 'Believe in the Boogie', 'Four Minute Warning' and 'Alone Without You' on my iTunes before but I'm enjoying hearing more.
Pros wordcount is good \o/ I've been working to 20,000 - is 30,000 an unofficial goal or just your own target? I think I'll break 20,000 by the end but not sure it'll be that long...

Date: 2011-08-02 01:37 am (UTC)I'm glad to hear you're (mostly) enjoyed HTMF. I do love the acoustic versions on the album, and yes, Believe in the Boogie is lovely. One of my faves is They Do. It reminds me a lot of Pieces of Heaven, which is one of my favourites on IYOT. The "hurt me" lyrics are...something all right. I can't honestly think of another singer, and certainly not a male one, who has that level of masochism in their lyrics. It's certainly fascinating. Although I have to say I prefer the toughness that you see hints of, like in bits of Making Out.
As for the Pros story, 30,000 words is my estimate of how much story I've got left. I've got 8 scenes left in the outline, and each scene usually takes 1,000 words, give or take. Mind you, there's some seriously plot heavy scenes in their, and given my luck I'll end up adding a scene or two. I'm very much looking forward to your story.
