Screening Fun

przedAs part of the big FanExpo convention being held in Toronto this weekend, tonight there was a screening of Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark, with a Q&A with Lance Henriksen and Michael Biehn afterwards. (The perceptive among you will realize that Michael Biehn was not in Near Dark. But he's in town for the convention and apparently decided to come along for fun. I was not complaining. *g*)
I don't think I'd seen the film since it was first released, and was pleased to see that the movie still holds up. (Kathryn Bigelow is a long time heroine of mine.) Lance Henriksen is a mad man, and an entertaining guy. And Michael Biehn is kind of a loopy actor type, but still as gorgeous as when he played Kyle Reese in Terminator. Plus, whilst he was waiting for his turn to go on stage, he was sitting right across the aisle from me, so I go to be this close to him for fifteen minutes or so. (This is a Big Deal. In high school, my best friend and I used to watch a VHS copy of The Terminator over and over again. We may have nearly worn out the pause button on the scene where Biehn character arrives from the future. Naked. Ahem.)

Too bad next year FanExpo and Worldcon are likely going to conflict. I really want to take Owen to FanExpo while he is in the middle of his Star Wars obsession.

BTW, the membership for WorldCon goes up at the end of September. And apparently the hotel booking opens in January. The hotel is right downtown, and Don is on board for turning it into a family vacation.
