I've been doing family stuff this weekend, not to mention finally sorting out the out-of-control clutter of our third floor, but I couldn't resist doing a 2011 summing up post, in part because the year saw a bit of a seismic shift in my fannish interests.

First up, a belated Yuletide reveal. This year I was ecstatic to draw a recipient, missmollyetc, who requested Buckaroo Banzai fic:

Attachment to Desire (2541 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension (1984)
Relationships: Buckaroo Banzai/Rawhide

I've wanted to write a long Buckaroo/Rawhide story for years, but was always afraid of not doing the characters justice. I don't know that I've nailed it here, but I did have a great time writing this one, if only because it gave me the chance to bring Rawhide back. It's also a follow-up, of a sort, to a Yuletide treat I wrote a couple of years ago, A Moment Of Clarity.

And here's the rest of my stories for the year…

I started the year somewhat foolishly with a drabble meme, promising 10 drabbles to the first 10 people to comment. I'm ashamed to admit I only finished 7 of the 10 ([livejournal.com profile] shayheyred, [livejournal.com profile] mrlnpndrgn and [livejournal.com profile] greengerbil, I do intend to complete your drabbles, honest), but here are the ones I managed.

A Young Man's Fancy (100 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: The Professionals
Relationships: William Bodie/Ray Doyle

Breaking the Rules (500 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Human Target (2010)
Relationships: Christopher Chance/Guerrero

Death or Life (200 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: The Professionals
Relationships: Bodie/Doyle

The Bet (400 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Star Trek (2009)
Relationships: James T. Kirk/Spock

The Waiting Game (1000 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: The Professionals
Relationships: William Bodie/Ray Doyle

The Beach (700 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Starsky & Hutch
Relationships: Ken Hutchinson/David Starsky
Characters: Ken Hutchinson, David Starsky

Fever Dreams (400 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Wild Wild West (TV)
Relationships: Artemus Gordon/James West

After the meme, there were two things that dominated my writing for the year. The first was the Pros Big Bang, which I also co-modded with the lovely Draycevixen ([livejournal.com profile] draycevixen), SC Fossil ([livejournal.com profile] sc_fossil), Norfolkdumpling ([livejournal.com profile] norfolkdumpling), Saintvic ([livejournal.com profile] saintvic), and Sineala ([livejournal.com profile] sineala).

The second was my sudden and rapid conversion into the sparkly glory that is Take That fandom by the charming and persuasive [livejournal.com profile] halotolerant. (She didn't have to use brainwashing or anything. Honest!)

The bulk of my writing for the year from March on was either my Pros BB story or TT. (And who knew that what my muse was waiting for to kick off an epic amount of fic was a British boy/manband. Or that the wretched creature was going to feed me a ton of AU story ideas for the fandom.)

Here's the fic for the rest of the year, minus the [livejournal.com profile] takethatslash Secret Santa story that hasn't been revealed yet.

Some Desperate Glory (10496 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Take That
Relationships: Howard Donald/Jason Orange, Mark Owen/Robbie Williams
A World War I AU.

Four Times Robbie Might Have Left, and One Time He Didn't (2093 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Take That
Relationships: Mark Owen/Robbie Williams, Howard Donald/Jason Orange
An AU take on the lead up to the Progress tour.

The Heart's Long Peace (4852 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Take That
Relationships: Mark Owen/Robbie Williams, Howard Donald/Jason Orange
A sequel to Some Desperate Glory

En Garde (729 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Take That
Relationships: Howard Donald/Jason Orange
Written for the [livejournal.com profile] takethatslash Progress tour ficathon.

Behind Closed Doors (546 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Take That
Relationships: OT5 - Relationship
Written for the [livejournal.com profile] takethatslash Progress tour ficathon.

In the Bleak Midwinter (44442 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: The Professionals
Relationships: William Bodie/Ray Doyle
My Pros Big Bang story.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (8743 words) by faviconPR Zed
Fandom: Take That
Relationships: Mark Owen/Robbie Williams, Howard Donald/Jason Orange
Another TT AU.

In addition to the Secret Santa fic, there's also a third Progress ficathon story that I haven't put up on AO3 yet because I'm working on a smutty follow-up to it. And there's also 12,000 word TT AU that I finished just before Christmas but haven't posted yet because it's not at all Christmas-y, and another TT AU, at 9,000 words and counting, that I'm hoping to finish in the next week or so.

Here's the year in numbers:
Total posted fic: 84,312 words
Total Pros fic: 46,412 words
Total TT fic: 34,029 words
Total TT fic, including unposted and WIPs: 55,529 words

Crikey.

Right, that's it for fic, now on to my New Year's Resolution.

In general, I'm not one for resolutions, but I'm breaking my own rule and making one fannish resolution for the coming year with regards to what I devote my time to. I haven't really worked on any vids for, gosh, nearly two years, mostly because of time. Vidding takes really concentrated stretches of time, which I haven't had much of, whereas if I've got 15 minutes going spare I can usually knock out a few words of whatever story I'm working on. But I've missed vidding rather a lot, and being in the throes of a new fandom has inspired me.

So my resolution is this: I'm finishing the last two WIPs I've got on the go, hopefully in the next week or two, and then I'm going to concentrate only on vidding for a while. I've got three firm ideas of vids I want to make, and I'm concentrating on those. We'll see how it goes.

And lastly, I've decided to start the year with a new default icon. You can see it up at the top of this post. Yep, it's a TT one. It wasn't a decision I made lightly. I've got a ton of icons, but I've only had three default icons in the 8 years I've been on LJ:

My very first Bean one, when I was all about the VigBean RPS,
[livejournal.com profile] fileg's gorgeous Aragorn/Boromir icon,
and the lads.

Now it's time for a new bunch of boys to take over.

I'm not abandoning Pros—there is, I hope, another BB coming up after all--but I think it's time to acknowledge that most of my fannish energy is being directed at the Take That boys these days.

And that's it for 2011. Bring on 2012.

Bookmarked to read eventually...You have been very busy!! At least I've already read In the Bleak Midwinter so I might get through the rest before too long.

Whilst Pros is one of my main fandoms for reading/wwriting/socialising, bandom in general (almost any band) is perhaps my reading fandom of choice. You know - if I had to choose, to take to a desert island, etc. I'm not familiar enough with the TT boys to join you writing-wise but I'm definitely looking forward to reading!!

And the icon is great!

I can't quite believe how much I've written this year. I wouldn't doubt that it's a personal best.

This is the first bandom fandom I've thrown myself fully into, though my first real fandom as a teenager was Yes. This was in the '80s, and I subscribed to a fanzine, and corresponded with other fans, and would have gone to the big annual convention if I'd thought my parents would have let a 16 year old travel to Philadelphia by herself for a rock convention. ;-)

I'll be curious what you think if you read any of the TT stories. In some ways they're very different from my Pros stories. (Bodie and Doyle don't cry, for a start. Or not much. *g*)

I promise I'll get round to them and will definitely comment. I'm up to the eyes at the moment but everything is bookmarked!

No worries. I understand swamped. Heck, I don't think I've read you 2010 Big Bang fic yet. Let alone most of this past year's Christmas stuff.

It's always fascinating to see what everyone's been busy with all year - very impressive TT-count, my dear. Sounds like you've had a blast!

Heh, I've always liked that lads icon of yours, with Doyle's arm in the forefront... mmmmm. Hope you'll bring it out from time to time. I really enjoyed your BB story this year. I hope you'll keep that universe going, zombies or no zombies :D And there must be a way to cross TT and Pros, no?? Heh, the lads running security for them perhaps, or Bodie being a secret fanboy... *out of control imagination alert*

The TT word count is insane! Insane I tell you! (I should have known I was in trouble when my first story in the fandom was a 10,000 word WW I AU. And it only took a week to write.)

Your production was pretty impressive too. All that Mag 7.

I'm too fond of that Pros icon not to use it frequently. Mmmmm, Doyle's arms. And I'm definitely planning on doing something for the BB this year. (Trust me, you don't want to feed me TT/Pros crossover bunnies. I'll actually write them, and then you'll be sorry. Mind you, I'm increasingly feeling the need to put Gary Barlow up against Bodie and see what happens. *g*)

So many lovely, lovely stories! Oh I'm so glad I could lure you to the land of the singing manlove ♥ I believe I've seen some of your fics-to-come, but possibly that makes me just even more excited about them! *g*

And I'm *massively* excited about you vidding. I may have mentioned this *g* *worships your vids* ♥

I am soooooooo very glad you lured me into the land of singing manlove. It is an awesome place to be. You have seen two of the fics to come, but there's definitely one that'll be a surprise. And might just be a combination of characters you'll enjoy. (BTW, the local friend I've sucked into TT is becoming quite the Howard/Jason fan. I thought you'd find that edifying.)

I had three vids in mind, but I've just stumbled across a song that is so Markie it's unbelievable, so that's just gone up to four. And I still need to drop you a line about some footage acquisition assistance. I'll try and do that tonight once I'm back from acupuncture.

Yay fic! \o/ I really enjoy reading them ahead of time and am always happy to beta, but complete surprises are also fun *g* Well done your friend - excellent taste *g*

FOUR VIDS *bouncesbouncesbounces* I like this plan *sends more inspiration vibes over the pond to you* ♥

Look at you and all your productivity :D And I love the new icon. I feel the same way about ST Reboot (I'm sure you hadn't noticed...I'm very subtle about it...*g*) - I can't abandon the Lads, but the shiny new boys are soooooo tempting. *strokes them*

Happy New Year Petal!

The new icon is pure glee. I cannot stay in a bad mood when I look at it.

I may have noticed your interest in ST Reboot. Though it has been subtle. *g*

I'll never abandon the Lads--I've been in the fandom for, gosh, close to twenty years now--but the shiny new boys are very shiny. And sparkly. *g*

The fact that your new default icon is one I made makes me more gleeful that you know! X3

SO MUCH FIC. I'm ashamed at my own fic productivity (or lack of, rather!) in comparison. By the way, I don't know if I gushed to a ridiculous level at you told you how much I adore that WWI TT fic. It's just... ♥ It's amazing. One of my all-time favourite TT fics, and I mean that sincerely. And you say there's more of your AUs to come? *MAKES GRABBY HANDS*

EDIT: Fixed my HTML fail! God, I've been doing that so much tonight... :\

It is a fantastic icon of a fantastic shot. Thanks so much for putting it up for grabs \o/

As for the fic, trust me, I'm not usually this prolific. But apparently TT was just what I was waiting to write. Who knew?!

Oh, I'm so glad to hear you like the WW I fic. I have to say, it's sort of a personal favourite, not least because it was the first TT fic I wrote and it came together unbelievably quickly. There are two more AUs to come, for the moment anyway. One I should post tomorrow, assuming I don't run out of time, and one I'm just putting the finishing touches on. If my luck holds, I'm hoping to finish that one next week. (Let's hear it for the inspiration of TT!)

"Hi, my name's Zed and I have a new addiction."

"Hi Zed, we're fandom, pull up a seat and tell us all about it." :D

Brilliant word count, petal and I really get a charge out of seeing that new fandom buzz in mates even when it's not a fandom I share. It's like a contact high...

"Hi, my name's Drayce and I live for a contact high."

Yeah, but AA is supposed to cure you of the addiction. Fandom enables it. ;-)

TT is totally giving me a contact high these days. I'm happy to pass it along.

Seriously, it's nutty. I don't think I've ever churned out the amount of words I've done this year. I mean, yeah, I wrote a 75K word novel, but the bastard took me eight years to write.

My commiserations on the first day back at work. That is never much fun. (It's my second week back, and I feel like I only got productive again today.)
