I'm determined to finally get my Pros novel, Exile, posted by this weekend. But because I am clearly far too picky/insane, I'm giving it one last read through. 63,000 words down. 19,000 to go.

And as many times as I've gone through it, I'm still finding the odd thing to tweak.

::sigh::

Lol, god, that sounds familiar. It does seem as if you have to give yourself only so many edits and that's it!

The Sweetie calls me The Tweaker. (Which he sings to the tune of The Who's The Seeker.) And yeah, I normally wouldn't have touched this one again, but I need to go through and check the formatting, so at that point I figured I might as well do one last go over for edits.

I hate hate hate reading a story before I post it because invariably I'll find all sorts of things I'd change or like to change and not just typos! That's also why I don't read my old stuff. I started reading an old TS story one day and all I could do was cringe and delete it. LOL!

BUT Exile is fantastic. I love that story. It's a grand adventure, a beautiful zine and a story that keeps me on the edge of my seat. The readers will be thrilled when you post it.

I don't usually go through an older story before I post, but I already had to check the formatting on this one, so...

Thank you so much for letting me know you enjoyed Exile. It was definitely a labour of love, and I'm glad I made the effort to turn it into a zine. But it'll also be nice to get it up online, especially with all of Lorraine's lovely illos.

You're not too picky - you just have style and are classy!

Shall I get out my pom poms? You know I don't do that for anyone! *starts warming up*

Stylish and classy! Yeah, that's it. *g*

You might want to save your pom poms for the Pros BB. And the OT3 story. And the TT zombie story. And... ;-)

I seem to hear a slight tone of sarcasm here in your comment that I think is completely inappropriate! *g*

So actually, what you're trying to say is that I better wipe the dust off the old costumes, get the girls together and start rehearsing the old routines, no? :D

I might not have been sarcastic. Possibly. ;-)

Yes! Totally yes! (And the mention of old routines is totally giving me lovely boyband thoughts. Funny how that works. *g*)

Boo! But you're not allowed to be sarcastic when I'm praising and worshipping you! *stamps foot*

Same here! Was giggling (possibly a tiny tinsy little bit too loud...) while writing this dpwn. One could come to the completely ill-founded conclusion we are simple minds! *g*

Sarcastic is my default setting I'm afraid. (I get it from my mum.) But the praise and worshipping is entirely mutual when it comes to writing.<---not sarcastic

We're not simple minded! Merely exuberant!

But... but... but it was perfect the first time round! *g* At least the story grabbed me so hard that if there were any imperfections I sure didn't notice them.

We're talking very small tweaks, either minor points of style or typos. Which I can't help myself from making. But I am glad to know you enjoyed the original version!

Looking forward to it anyway. Stop tweaking - there comes a point where tweaking is a bit like biting your nails and anyway just produces more typos.

Pure curiosity - why aren't you using this as your BB contribution for this year?

I would not have looked at it again, except that I needed to go through and check that the formatting was okay. And since that was going to take looking at every page, I couldn't resist doing a read through at the same time. But this is definitely it. After this read through, I shall never tweak this story again.

The BB is meant to be for stories not published anywhere before. Since this was out in zine format, that disqualifies it. But on the positive side, I'm now making good progress with the story I have earmarked for the BB. And not before time.

Ah! I hadn't realised it was a zine. All the more reason for not tweaking - it's already been tweaked within an inch of its life. Hope it's going on AO3 for downloading for Kindle!! *g*

It has indeed been tweaked to within an inch of its life. Which didn't stop me tweaking it some more. ::headdesk::

And yes, it will be up on AO3 soon. Possibly even tonight!

I don't think you're picky or insane (well, perhaps a little of the latter *g*), I think it's natural to want to tweak. Apart from anything else, you learn something new with everything you write so sometimes you look at older work and think "now I know that works better this way..."

I think it's one of the best things about AO3, and one of the worst, that you can edit to your heart's content.

I do try to impose some sort of a cut off on myself, because you can tweak forever. (The Sweetie calls me The Tweaker, which he of course sings to The Who's The Seeker.) But because I had to do major quality control on the formatting of this one--I had to convert it from a double-columned file with fancy wingdings for section breaks--I figured I might as well give it one last read through at the same time. At least most of the tweaks are really minor stylistic things.

Thanks! I've been poking away at it in spare moments today, and it's nearly done! With luck, I may have it up tonight.

Oooh yay! Someone recced this to me but I could not find it online (and I thought, 'If Zed had written 60k of Pros I'm sure I would have found it by now!') and I was sadface - but HAPPYFACE NOW!!! *bounces*

The zine came out, oh, three years ago, and I've been meaning to post it for at least the last year, but I wanted to do that one last read through. But now that's done, and I've formatted the illos, and I should have it up on AO3 tonight! And then kick Frances a file for Pros lib over the weekend.

Look for the announcement in all the usual places.

Yay!

I'm so glad you posted this! I was able to get a copy of the zine and LOVED it. The story is terrific and the art work is gorgeous. I'm happy that it's now available to everyone! Stories this good need to be out there for all of us! Looking forward to another read through of this one.

I'm glad you tracked down a copy of the zine (in retrospect, I wish I'd had more copies printed, but it was a heck of an outlay of dosh) and that you enjoyed it. Yay! I'm also pleased to get it up on the net and out in the wild.
