Last night was soccer night. The final score was 0 - 4, not for our side, but in spite of the one-sidedness of the scoring, the kids actually did really well. They got it up to the other goal a lot, but couldn't get it past some pretty good goalkeeping on the other side's part. (Ros did some pretty great goalkeeping of her own, which was lovely to see. I've got to get her practising ball-handling, though. She totally over-thinks it, as she often does with some physical things, and it takes her forever to get the ball down the field. We'll just have to practice a bit so she doesn't think about every movement.)

In other news, I seem to have created unreasonable expectations for music journalism in my daughter. We had this conversation over dinner last night.

Ros: (catching sight of a picture in the local paper's Entertainment section) Who's that?
Me: That's Metric. They're a Canadian band.
Ros: (clearly disappointed) Oh. I wanted it to be Take That.
Me: Oh, Sweetie, Take That don't really get in the papers here. They do a lot in England, though.
Ros: I want to live in England!
Me: You and me both, kiddo.

Well, if she keeps this up, she'll be totally ready to see Take That in 2014.

I'm glad the footie is going well. Sounds like the team is learning how to play together.

Your conversation with Ros cracked me up. :)

The footie is going okay. Now I've just got to do better at figuring out drills that keep 12 6-year-olds having fun for the 15 min. practice.

Ros constantly cracks me up. (The TT comment came out of the blue. Honest!)

You've definitely raised expectations... Hopefully, we might get to meet you in 2014!!

Meanwhile - carry on footballing! The nearest I got to football this week was buying a gingerbread footballer for my grandson - wearing English kit (in icing) of course. It was eaten before I could photograph it.*g*

The plan is to hit England in 2014, and not just for TT, so fingers crossed! It would be lovely to meet you. (And Manchester is defintely one of my preferred places to see the band. The other would be Sunderland, because I'm weird that way. The Sweetie is hoping for Wembley, as much as he's hoping for TT at all.)

The gingerbread footballer sounds brilliant. I'm sure my team would love something like that. Hmmmm.

Glad to hear that the team is coming together.

Is it all right if I want to live in England (again) to, but not for the TT journalism? *puppy dog eyes*

Right, that's settled then... Now to tell MG. :D

TT is just one of the many, many reasons I'd love to live in England. (We started explaining to Ros how awesome the theatre is in London and she just gave us a look like we were mental. Fortunately, we're used to getting that look.)

All right then... perhaps one big happy farm?

If Ros is a good goal-keeper, England could probably use her for Euro 2012 and I'm sure there'd be a citizenship in it *g*

Rock on 2014 and Take That!

Did you guys see the Barlow's Jubilee song? It's really rather lovely:

And this was fun too:

She's really pretty good in goal. Give her a couple of years, and she might be ready for Euro 2016.

TT in 2014 FTW!

I did see Sing, and it is lovely. I've been debating grabbing the documentary. I'm sure my Gary-loving daughter would enjoy it.

Will Smith and Gary together are far too much fun. I loved Gary reminding Will about when Jason kicked his arse break dancing too.

I thought the documentary was very good, not least for pointing out how different lifestyles are within with the Commonwealth but how music can bring all that together (I loved the Kibera Slum Drummers pointing out to Gary that for them music is genuinely an escape and a joy rather than a commercial enterprise, although I hope this project has meant more money for them) - so I think it would be good for children (of all ages!) as well as fun with Gary *g*

Oh god, I was *delighted* to a ridiculous extent that Gary remembered that, because I was going 'Oh, you met at Smash Hits!' but assuming they wouldn't mention that in the way celebrities often don't seem sufficiently aware of their own trivia *g* (I remember that more, though, for the bit as you have seen on the DVD of Will being confronted by Mark and Robbie camping it up in dressings gowns and clearly having no idea how to respond *g*)

I acquired the documentary last night, so shall have to give it a watch, hopefully with Ros. (I have to say I was disappointed he didn't hit Canada. :-( )

I felt the same when Gary mentioned the Smash Hits awards! I watch that clip of Jason showing up Will far too often. And I also know what you mean about celebrities being insufficiently aware of their own trivia. I thought it was a huge missed opportunity when Gary was on Jonathan Ross a while ago with Ewan McGregor, that when Ewan made a point of kissing Ross, no one pointed out that Ross had done the same thing with TT ages ago. I think I may even have yelled at the TV. ;-)

I've only cherry picked my way through the footage you sent so far, and hadn't seen that bit with Mark and Robbie and the dressing gowns. Shall have to rectify that! I really need to go through it all with a view to making notes for M/R and H/J vids. (At least I've started laying the groundwork for a multifandom vid to What is Love.)

...to England, where my heart lies...:)

Oh, you've got to work on this over-thinking-thing! There's a study somewhere out there that proves that intelligent players are more likely to suffer injuries than the less...well, ahem, you know...?

And, Ros! Precious girl is precious! ♥

You can see the wheels turn when she's doing certain things. There's a reason we used to call her thinky baby when she was little. This works out well when she's trying to figure out how to, say, climb to the top of the playground structure on the outside of it, but not so much when she's running down a soccer field or doing walking stance drills at the dojo. (There's a reason in martial arts you practice a move a million times until it's second nature and you don't even think about it anymore.)

But yep, she's definitely precious.

Glad the footie is progressing and Ros is doing well - practise makes perfect :)

And speaking of Ros, she's shaping up to be a fab little fangirl isn't she? Good training! :D

I'll just have to make a point of kicking the ball around in the park regularly. Which fortunately I enjoy anyway.

Ros is certainly displaying fangirl tendencies. Which I can only applaud. (She's totally doing it on her own. I certainly put on the TT stuff when she asks, but I never push it on her. I don't want to have her rebel.)
