Down and Safe

Last week was sort of nutty so I didn't have time to post before we left, but we're now back from a successful camping trip. Ros' doctor said she could go, so even though she was having rather rough nights, we took the risk and went. Fortunately, she's come through like a trooper and is now doing much better.
The camping trip was with two other families, whose daughters are also adopted from China, and the kids all get along (mostly) great, and we're friends with the other parents, so it all works out well. It's actually the third year we've all camped together.
And much to my amusement, there was even Take That content for the weekend.
On the three hour drive to the park, Ros was occupying herself making a bunch of lists. My favourite flowers, my favourite birds, that sort of thing. This was what she came up with for my favourite songs:

She came up with that all on her own. Honest! (I have to say I'm rather pleased she picked a Mark song and a Howard song.)
Then last night, I caught this snippet of conversation between Ros and one of the other girls:
Ros: And one of their names is Robbie, and he wore a harness and then he jumped off the top of the stage.
Robbie has made an impression on her mostly for that stage leap, not for his songs. As she made clear when she was putting in a request for music during the car ride.
Ros: I want you to play original Take That.
Me: What? You mean their first few albums. I don't have those with me, kiddo.
Ros: No! The one with Patience!
Me: Oh, you mean Beautiful World.
So for Ros "original Take That" means TT4 without Robbie. ::Iz amused::

It must be a little confusing for her (it's a little confusing for anyone!) about how there are 5 then 4 then 5 then probably 4 again, but I can see how Robbie would look like an optional extra.
They've been rumoured to be confirmed for the Olympics closing ceremony (not clear whether as 5 or 4) so keep an eye out for that!

Date: 2012-07-17 02:23 pm (UTC)I think Rob sort of fascinates and confuses her in general, so yeah, he's definitely an optional extra in her universe. Unless he's leaping off the stage, in which case he's awesome. (She calls "Let Me Entertain You" "The Song Where Robbie Jumps Off the Stage." Of course "The Garden" is also "The Giant Elephant Song" so you can see how that works.)
I've been following the Olympics closing ceremony rumours and keeping my fingers crossed. (I'm hoping they're right about both TT and The Who, because that would be two of my four favourite bands in one neat little package.)

Date: 2012-07-17 06:22 pm (UTC)I am hoping so much that (a) there is a TT tour in 2013 (b) I get to go (c) you guys get to go (d) I get to go with you one time! Because I would *love* to experience a TT concert alongside an excited kid *g* (although, *coughs* I'm sure

I don't know. I intend on giving her a good run for her money. *g*

Date: 2012-07-18 12:11 am (UTC)Listening to Take That of course is the best possible cure. It must be so nice that Ros herself asks for the music! For a kid, I think Mancunian Way is an original favourite! Don’t get me wrong, I love that song, but because it probably isn’t the catchiest song and doesn’t have a strong visual (caterpillar) performance as its backbone ;).... The choice of a true fan. *g*

Date: 2012-07-18 03:34 am (UTC)Mancunian Way certainly isn't an obvious choice for a kid, but Ros initially got into it because of Grace singing at the end. (She asks to see the bit of For the Record with Grace in it every now and then.) Now she likes it for itself and will belt out the chorus.
