Soccer Report, and Writing Progress

It was an interesting game tonight. First the ref didn't show up, leaving me and the other coach to share reffing duties. Then three quarters of the way through, the skies opened up. Since there was no ref to keep us playing in the downpour, and since we only had about ten minutes to go anyway, the other coach and I mutually decided to call the game and we all legged it.

The game itself went much better than last week. The kids did pretty well at the passing drills I ran for the practice, and were all mostly trying hard. Final result of the incomplete game: 1 - 2 for the other team. But hey, it was close! Also, Ros played in goal and really dug in. She let one goal in, but it was a beautiful kick that would have been hard to defeat. And otherwise she kept everything out, including some really tough shots. She's asked for goalie gloves, so I'll be off to the soccer store this week.

I spent a lovely weekend up at my mom's with Ros--the weather was gorgeous, so most of it was spent on the beach, building sandcastles and swimming--so I didn't get too much writing done, but I'm fast closing in on finishing my TT Big Bang story. Here's the official word count:


I'm hoping to finish it tomorrow, but as I'm off to see a documentary about The Who's Quadrophenia with a mate tomorrow night, I may not get that last thousand words done. Fingers crossed.

Once that one's done and dusted, it's back to Pros and zombies, which is coming along nicely:


That's a lot of words already down, but a lot still to go. I'm optimistically hoping to be done by the end of August. We'll see.

I don't know that she'll want to be a goalie permanently--she's not as keen on the position as she used to be--but she is good at it.

I saw on your Tumblr that Germany also won in fencing. That's the sport I seriously love. Rowing is fun, too!

though their rowing is utter crap...*g*

Yes! OMG, yes! I almost can't watch the video any more because their rowing really is utter crap. Though to be fair, I'd watched the video a few bazillion times before I really noticed that their rowing was crap. But then that was all I could see.

I'm sending good writing thoughts your way. Selfishly, because I can't wait to see how your story turns out. (I'm hoping I'll have a full draft to send you by the end of today. Stay tuned...)

Talk her into it! Tell her goalies are allowed to ride on giant caterpillars and jump from things! :)

Oh, and the fencing has only just started! There's more to come!

To be fair, for people who've never rowed before they're doing quite good (you can see the Barlow is suffering!). But it's like you say - once you've seen it, you see nothing else...

Please do! It's all in my head, you know, it's ALL there! That's what keeps me thinking positive, because I know when the story's up in my head, I CAN write it.
And of course I'll stay tuned! I'm sooooooo looking forward to what comes my way...*g*

She might see through the giant caterpillars argument. And she's already jumping off frighteningly high things. But the goalie gloves might do it. ;-)

We're getting practically no fencing coverage here, but I downloaded 5 hours of women's foil from BBC coverage. Yay! Not that I have time to watch it, but at least I know it's sitting on my computer. Now I've just got to get some badminton. (That was my other big sport growing up.)

TT probably row better than I would, so I've got no right to criticize, but that's not necessarily saying much. ;-)

I know the story is in your head. Now you just have to get it out into the world so the rest of us can enjoy it! YOU CAN DO IT!
