My but there's a lot of AU on that trope care... but then I suppose there are a lot of AU tropes. *g*

The AU stuff was a big part of the attraction for me. But I can safely say that this would not be the challenge for you.

*bounces for fic*

This is incredibly tempting for me, I must say *g* But then I reckon I could just do some fics without the stress of having a card (although I would be so happy to get a card with mpreg because I could use it as an excuse!) *g*

I understand you're ridiculously pleased and I'm really really looking forward to wingfic from you (like, really!). But can I just say that I'm very very sad you didn't pull coffee shop au?? *g*

Okay, so call me naive (NAIVE!) but what is Trope Bingo? How does one play?

Even if you don't get a card, you should totally WRITE MORE MPREG! (If you told me two years ago I'd be saying that...)

You should totally sign up! It'll be fun!

If I hadn't made a promise to myself to scale all the way back on challenge expectations until after August at least I'd consider it. I'm pretty sure I could take care of the AU with my extensive exercise of AR and/or fusion and/or crossover abuse. *g*

Besides which, I should probably write at least one clearly AU story at some point... At the circus, Reese is the new tightrope walker with the tragic past, Finch is the ring master who used to be a tightrope walker before the tragic accident (did I say "accident?") and Fusco is a clown with a really bad attitude...

Wingfic will be fun. But yes, I did pull coffee shop AU! I pulled everything on the card! And I'm going to try and write it allllll! Or at least one or two lines.

I think mpreg is the only crack trope I've never written... I eyeball it now and again and then run away. Still...

You sign up at the comm (just comment on the sign up post), then they give you a card, and you try and get a bingo by writing a story for every trope on a line. Or you can do more complicated bingos, like trying to get an X. Try it! It'll be fun!

I meant to ask. Will they all be Take That or can you mix up the card/will you mix up the card?

I was looking at the card thinking some of these would be tougher than others with certain fandoms.

And again I completely missed the point. *facepalm* Alllll of them sounds great - there's some wonderfully awesome fic to be expected. \o/

Given that my brain has been eaten by a certain manband, I think it's likely they'll mostly be TT stories. But you can write whatever you want, and I'm already considering another Pros/TT mashup for the fusion square.

But honestly, given the breadth of what people have done with TT, I can easily see doing every one of these squares with the boys.

Now I'm going to bug you until you write the circus AU. Because I'm a bit obsessed with circus AUs at the moment ([livejournal.com profile] soundofthesurf wrote a fantastic one for the TT BB), and this sounds like a wickedly awesome idea. (And now I'm realizing I need a clown!Mark icon.)

See, you just need to play bingo all the time with a six-year-old. *g*

But yes, this is going to be fun!

*g* First of all it would help if I read things properly before posting something. Oh, and a little bit of thinking hasn't done anyone harm, too...

Buuuuuut: FUN, FUN, FUN!

Well, I AM looking at the community, and I like the idea of combining tropes. And if everything else fails, I can write Top Gear fic and blame the Stig!

BRB signing up.

Also, looking at the tropes, I've already done plenty of them for Top Gear. Animal transformation? Check. Bodyswap? Check. (Actually, that was a combo) Fake relationship? Check.

HOW HARD CAN IT BE.

Yay!

And yeah, I've already done a few myself. Apocalypse AU? Oh yeah. Wingfic? Yep, and ready to do more!

IT'S GOING TO BE EPIC!

I think with mpreg (well, like with many many things in fic) it's in how it's written. Also, people get hung up on the biology, which is odd when you consider that in a story with a pregnant woman, there don't tend to be massive techincal descriptions. Personally I like it in situations where it's perceived as a normal, predictable event becuase then you can focus on the emotional consequences.

Or in other words, g'wan, have a go! *g*

Date: 2013-01-05 01:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
You have just hit upon both my initial resistance to mpreg (the "biology doesn't work like that, that's just silly" issue) and how I overcame it (a certain Victorian steampunk Martian colony mpreg story where the biology was totally normal and you could concentrate on the emotional consequences of the pregnancy.) Which is awesome, because I hadn't been quite able to articulate why the trope was suddenly working for me now.

Date: 2013-01-05 02:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com

So far at least (never say never in fandom) I've never written AU and don't have any particular interest in it so mpreg as "normal" doesn't really work.

I do write crack fic admittedly but my brain can't seem to see pregnancy as "cracky" the way it managed to see genderswap and bodyswap as cracky... although I don't think I'll be repeating either one of those again.

Breaking Update!

I have a sex pollen idea for UNCLE!

That is all.

Date: 2013-01-05 03:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com

UNCLE is like Life on Mars (bear with me here) in that almost anything works in these canons without even having to go AU. Fandoms like Doctor Who and Star Trek work well too.

I start thinking about sex pollen in say Pros or Person of Interest and... no, not without going AU.

Date: 2013-01-05 04:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
You're right about UNCLE and LoM, as opposed to Pros or PoI. Mind you, even with UNCLE, my interest used to be in making it grittier and more realistic. Now, apparently not so much. ;-)

Date: 2013-01-05 05:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com

Yeah, but you could make an UNCLE episode grittier and realistic and still include sex pollen... like The Wild Wild West. *g*

I wrote so much crack in LoM -- Bodyswap, genderswap, odd crossovers, etc -- and in coma world it all works.

Despite POI having such a small collection of fan fiction so far it's surprising how much AU and tropes there are, but really, it doesn't work that well.

Seeeee, the thing is *geeky moment* mpreg is sort of vaguely possible ish. I mean, not actually gonna happen in our world unassisted, but it's not totally bonkers to me (yes, I have spent hours with a textbook thinking about it). Yes, some AU where anatomy and physiology is altered a little is simplest, but it's never struck me as so very cracky which I think gave me a good head start *g*

Date: 2013-01-06 12:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] halotolerant.livejournal.com
It can be crack, certainly, but as I say I prefer it 'straight' (so to speak)... *g*

Date: 2013-01-06 04:30 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] draycevixen.livejournal.com

I can totally see that... and there's something in me that would seriously like to see a man hit by pregnancy hormones. *g*

ETA: I did write mpreg years ago in a post-apocalyptic play. I'd forgotten it, tbh, until this little discussion.

My inner research geek totally loves that you've thought through how to make mpreg biologically possible. And now I know who to come to if I'm ever struck by an mpreg idea and I need to make it plausible, for myself if no one else. *g* (Actually, my brain has started mulling over which other of the boys, besides Jay, it might be okay with making pregnant. Mark is, not at all surprisingly, leading the pack. Though Howard also has a certain attraction.)
