I think mpreg is the only crack trope I've never written... I eyeball it now and again and then run away. Still...

I think with mpreg (well, like with many many things in fic) it's in how it's written. Also, people get hung up on the biology, which is odd when you consider that in a story with a pregnant woman, there don't tend to be massive techincal descriptions. Personally I like it in situations where it's perceived as a normal, predictable event becuase then you can focus on the emotional consequences.

Or in other words, g'wan, have a go! *g*

You have just hit upon both my initial resistance to mpreg (the "biology doesn't work like that, that's just silly" issue) and how I overcame it (a certain Victorian steampunk Martian colony mpreg story where the biology was totally normal and you could concentrate on the emotional consequences of the pregnancy.) Which is awesome, because I hadn't been quite able to articulate why the trope was suddenly working for me now.

Seeeee, the thing is *geeky moment* mpreg is sort of vaguely possible ish. I mean, not actually gonna happen in our world unassisted, but it's not totally bonkers to me (yes, I have spent hours with a textbook thinking about it). Yes, some AU where anatomy and physiology is altered a little is simplest, but it's never struck me as so very cracky which I think gave me a good head start *g*

My inner research geek totally loves that you've thought through how to make mpreg biologically possible. And now I know who to come to if I'm ever struck by an mpreg idea and I need to make it plausible, for myself if no one else. *g* (Actually, my brain has started mulling over which other of the boys, besides Jay, it might be okay with making pregnant. Mark is, not at all surprisingly, leading the pack. Though Howard also has a certain attraction.)

So far at least (never say never in fandom) I've never written AU and don't have any particular interest in it so mpreg as "normal" doesn't really work.

I do write crack fic admittedly but my brain can't seem to see pregnancy as "cracky" the way it managed to see genderswap and bodyswap as cracky... although I don't think I'll be repeating either one of those again.

It can be crack, certainly, but as I say I prefer it 'straight' (so to speak)... *g*

I can totally see that... and there's something in me that would seriously like to see a man hit by pregnancy hormones. *g*

ETA: I did write mpreg years ago in a post-apocalyptic play. I'd forgotten it, tbh, until this little discussion.
