China, the Ridiculous Things Post

przedNext up, a post of ridiculous things we did/saw in China.
Pretty much every historical site we visited had a set-up where you could dress up in costumes from some past dynasty and have your picture taken. We decided to become members of Qing dynasty royalty in the Tengweng Tower in Nanchang. That headpiece I'm wearing? Totally fell off if I moved my head.
Our hotel room in Beijing had a safe. After I showed her how to use it, Ros decided to appropriate it for her most precious treasures: the balloon she got from the clown at an acrobat show, her purse, and her beloved Blue Bear.
May I present, Pee Pee Boy. Ros insisted on getting this little guy after we saw him demonstrated at a tea house. Ostensibly, he's to test the temperature of water for tea. You stick him a glass of water until he absorbs some, and then you pour boiling water over him. Which causes the air inside him to heat and push out the water inside him, making him, well, pee. Ros thinks it's hi-larious
We were always on the look out for crazy snack foods. These were Oreos with filling that was half raspberry, half blueberry. Which was better than the corn snacks that looked like cheezies but tasted like hyper-charged corn on the cob. The cognitive dissonance with those was so bad I actually spit 'em out.
One of the things our tour company set up was a cooking class in Yangshuo. The outfit was, shall we say, not flattering on me.
It was kind of adorable on Ros, though.

Date: 2013-04-07 02:08 am (UTC)I couldn't eat a whole Oreo (can't do chocolate) but the filling did taste weirdly like raspberry and blueberry. I don't know that I'd say I look good, per se. Or at all. (There are pics of me I like. This would not be one of them. *g*)
