Just a quick post tonight because it is late and I am le tired.

After yesterday's apocalyptic weather--subway stations flooded! a commuter train nearly floated away!--tonight was muggy but otherwise a nice night for soccer. We were missing our best player, but the others put in a valiant effort against a really tough team. (There's one girl on the opposing side in particular who is a complete prodigy. She's got an amazing sense of the field and awesome ball control, and is pretty hard to beat.) We managed to hold them to a draw last time we played them, but this time it was 2 - 5, and not for us. We had some very near scoring opportunities, though, including three good kicks that rebounded off the goal post from one of our wee but mighty players.

Ros was again a bit reluctant to mix it up, but had some good moments of getting in there defensively.

I concur, though I'm quite happy for it to be controlled aggression. The team last night were a little over the edge with that. The ref called two actual penalties on them, and I don't think I've seen a single penalty before that in this league. Mind you, one of our strong players beaned their goalie in the head with the ball, so we weren't entirely angels either. (The beaning wasn't deliberate, but still looked painful.)

Actually, what's amusing me most with Ros at the moment is how she constantly wants to practice sparring at home. She's showing definite interest in going into the black belt stream at Taekwando so she can do sparring and weapons training. Which I am very much encouraging.
