R.I.P. Lew

Saw that Lewis Collins was trending on Twitter this morning, and feared the worse. Was absolutely gutted to learn that those fears were justified, and he has passed away.



Pros is the fandom I've been active in the longest, and much of it comes down to the wonderful chemistry between Lewis and Martin Shaw in the show. I was lucky enough to see him years ago doing a regional theatre tour of Dangerous Corner. (I dragged the Sweetie to Croydon to see it.) The play wasn't brilliant, but Lewis was far and away the best thing in it, and clearly enjoyed performing. I now doubly regret not going to the stage door afterwards.

I feel like a stranger among family members at a wake. "I didn't know him well, but..." I was just thinking the other day that the time might be right for me to explore this fandom, based on my love for Melissa Scott and Lisa Barnett's Points books. I've read the Shipping Manifesto, and know where to find the fic and fic recs, and was about to start searching Youtube for some episodes. I'll still do that, but my entry into the fandom will be bittersweet. (I'm late to every fannish party, it seems, but I've never been this late before. )

I know that you and FJBryan were active in the fandom, too (I've seen your stories on rec lists!) so I was planning to consult you as well. *hugs*

It's a good fandom to explore, though definitely bittersweet in light of this news. The show isn't perfect, but the chemistry between Lewis and Martin Shaw was what made it. And the stories they inspired will have them both living on.
