Belt Grading!
Mar. 28th, 2014 11:11 pmOne of the things taking my time lately has been Taekwando training. I figured I'd be doing my next grading in June, but three weeks ago one of our instructors informed me I'd be grading this month. At which point I freaked out, and then spent a lot of time making sure I knew all my forms.
Tonight was the grading, and I actually did pretty good. I'm now a brown belt with black stripe, which puts me four belts from black.

I'm feeling pretty good about my skill level, but now the new thing freaking me out is everyone at the school telling me I'll be going for my black belt next year. Ummm.... (Black belt training is pretty serious at this school. They expect you to do four classes a week for a year with extra training on the side, and it all culminates with the Power Weekend, where you stay at the school all weekend and they put you through the wringer.)
But for now, I'm not going to worry about that. I'm just going to enjoy having got through another grading.
Here's a few more pics of the grading.
This is me doing a front kick drill. (This is the only kick the Sweetie managed to get a shot of. He missed them in my form, and then smudged the camera lens right before I did my kicking run. Ah, well.)

This is from my form, Yul-Gok, one of the traditional Taekwando forms. This is a spear hand strike.

More Yul-Gok. Here I'm getting ready to do an awesome kick. (You'll have to trust me that it was awesome because there is no photographic evidence. *g*)

One last bit of Yul-Gok, doing a slow hooking block.

And here's a selfie Ros took herself with the Sweetie's phone. (Yes, I'm very pink.)

Date: 2014-03-29 12:14 pm (UTC)You do have to that year, you know. It would be so completely cool. As said by a person who doesn't have to go through it. But, really? All that, culminating in the Power Weekend? Very, very cool.
Thank you for sharing the photos! You are fabulous!

Date: 2014-03-30 04:41 am (UTC)I do want to go black, but it's all a matter of figuring out if next year is the best year to do it. (Not that it's going to get any easier if I wait.) The Power Weekend is the things that's most terrifying to me, though. Mostly because of the whole exercise-induced anaphylaxis thing. If I push myself too hard I'll either end up having to take Benedryl and unconscious for 18 hours, or having to use the EpiPen and in the E.R. for four hours. Either way, I won't make it through. Stoopid body.

Date: 2014-03-30 04:42 am (UTC)Ros' gap-tooth smile is fab. (Her school pictures were even more adorable. She was missing both front teeth.)

Date: 2014-03-30 04:47 am (UTC)I've been doing the taekwando at this school for nearly three years, but I did hapkido (another Korean martial art that uses more grappling and throws) for nearly ten. And I've also done karate and taekwando at another club. And on the softer side, tai chi when I was having serious back problems. Basically, I love martial arts.
