Will you look at that. It's not even one in the morning and I'm all packed up for MediaWest. I may actually get a good night's sleep and on the road early.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone ([livejournal.com profile] st_crispins! [livejournal.com profile] sc_fossil! [livejournal.com profile] silver_cyanne? anyone else?) at the con this year, but my squee is somewhat subdued this year. I don't know if it's just that I've finally had it with the organizational stupidities and downright vindictiveness of the MW con comm, or the fact I will be the sole representative of the current fandom of my heart (Take That, in case you had any doubt), or if I'm beginning to gafiate a bit from fandom, or what.

I doubt I'm ready to pull away from fandom entirely--it's too much a part of my identity--and I'm sure I'll have a ball once I'm in Lansing. And though I'm feeling that this may be my swansong at MW, there's BistoCon to look forward to, and vague plans afoot to attend Escapade next year.

Okay, that's enough introspection for one evening.

I'll see some of you soon at MW, and the rest online!

Fandom has essentially moved to Tumblr but Tumblr can't really handle all of it and then there's the resulting strange mix of the personal and fandom and it's really difficult to control access to it.

Even mates of mine who've been quite enamoured of Tumblr are sounding more frustrated by it.

TT fandom has moved wholesale to Tumblr, and while it's lovely for pretty pictures, it's pretty much crap for anything else. Add in its huge time suck abilities, and I'm beginning to think more and more that I need to cut the Tumblr umbilical.

I wish things would move back to LJ/DW, or failing that, that the next new thing would emerge that's much more conducive to discussions and fic.

At least the TT fandom doesn't have spoilers. *g*

I tried Tumblr as most of the POI fandom is there but the spoilers make me nuts. As to Tumblr fandom in general I love pretty pictures, gifs and vids as much as the next fangirl but I'm really here for the fic and discussion and it is terrible for that and then there's the whole SJW aspect. Nope, not for me.

Fandom is just so fractured.

Oh, even TT has spoilers. When the next tour happens, I'll have to decide whether to check out how they've staged the productions or go in not knowing anything. ;-)

Tumblr is horrible for discussion and fic. And the SJW stuff really does become a bit much. (It's one of the ways you can just tell how young their user base is.)

Fandom is certainly fractured, although I suppose part of the problem is also that there's just so many more people in it than there were back in the day.

The frustrating thing about the SJW stuff is what could be accomplished if that energy could be harnessed in ways that really bring about change... but then that's not what it's really about.

I sometimes wonder whether there really are more people or if it's just a product of how much more visible the whole thing is. Large public sites like Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter bringing about much more exposure to non-fans and to the creative teams as well.
