Footie: Playoffs - Semis
Sep. 17th, 2014 01:01 pmBriefly crawling out of TIFF and life-induced sleep debt to finally deliver a report on our semi final game on Sunday. (How is it Wednesday already?!)
After playing in the rain on Saturday morning, Sunday was a lovely, sunny, if cool, day. Perfect weather for soccer. The team we were playing was third in the overall standings, and we'd beaten them once and been beaten by them once, so we knew it could go either way.
It ended up being a very tough game. Both our girls and the other team weren't giving any quarter. Ros made some crucial saves in the first half, but finally gave up a goal towards the end of the half. (There was a crowd around her goal, when one of the other team finally got the ball free and drove a very hard kick straight in.)
Our team had a few good opportunities to tie it up in the second half, but they could never quite get the ball in. I'd been running penalty kick drills with both our goalies and shooters before the game started, since that's how our season ended last year, and was hoping we could tie and take it to penalties, but it just didn't happen. So, our season ended with a 0 - 1 loss.
The girls were disappointed, but took it well. And as compensation, at the trophy ceremony we got the U8 League Champion trophy for coming in first in the regular season. And I got hugs from a bunch of the girls, as well as the league's head coach. The Sweetie and I are apparently in her good books forever for bringing back nets in the middle of a thunderstorm.
I've got a few pics to put up, but I've somehow managed to lose all of the sync cords for my good camera. (I've got three of those cords. How the heck can I have misplaced three of them?!)

Date: 2014-09-18 05:30 am (UTC)Congratulations on the effort everyone has put in, and best of luck for the next season! I shall think of you, collecting nets, and herding small football players, and sorting them all out, and then the game, with the spectators in their camping chairs, and the bottles of water down on the grass, next year!

Date: 2014-09-18 01:03 pm (UTC)It was fun to have you come out to a game, and nifty that you now have a concrete picture in your head of how it all happens.

Date: 2014-09-18 01:05 pm (UTC)And now I'm just curious to see if we get any players we know on our team next year. (I've been coaching three years, and did assistant coaching for two years before that, and I've still never gotten players on my team more than once.)
