I'm a bit late doing this meme this year, but was curious about how things had changed.

List your ten fics at AO3 that have had the most hits.

1. In the Bleak Midwinter
Pros My 2011 Pros Big Bang story, and the last entry (so far) in the Comfort and Joy series. In its fourth year as number one.

2. The First Time 'Round.
My Edge of Tomorrow Yuletide fic, number 11 last year, and has shot up to 2 this year. It also has the most kudos by far of any of my fic.

3. Dreaming of a White Christmas
Take That Number 2 last year, and my 2013 Christmas story.

4. Exile
Pros My lone Pros novel, and the absolute hardest thing I've ever written. (It took eight years to finish, give or take.) Dropped down from 3 last year.

5. Pretty Little Liars
Take That My entry for the inaugural Take That Big Bang in 2012. Up from 6 last year.

6. Firsts
Pros A series of vignettes of firsts in Bodie and Doyle's lives, and probably the second hardest stories I've ever written. ("How hard can it be?" I asked myself. "A bunch of vignettes; I can toss that off in a couple of weeks, tops." I think it ended up taking more than a year.) Down from 4 last year.

7. Nothing Worth Having
Sherlock Holmes, RDJ Movie-verse My one Holmes/Watson/Mary OT3. It's down two from last year.

8. Live 'Til You Die. Pros An entry for the [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo sacrifice square. Held the same place last year.

9. Happy Endings
Pros Young mercenary Bodie meets young copper Doyle. Down two places from 7 last year.

10. An Open Book
Sherlock Holmes, RDJ Movie-verse Down one from 9.

In the wake of the UNCLE movie, a number of my UNCLE stories have been getting a lot of hits. The Carpathian Christmas Affair is bubbling under at #11. It's the story I wrote for the 2010 Down the Chimney challenge on [livejournal.com profile] muncle.

Hey, I'm reading Happy Endings right now! And Exiles is a special favourite of mine. ;-)

I'm rather fond of young Bodie and Doyle in Happy Endings. And I'm so glad to hear you like Exiles. That story took a lot of work. Including a complete rewrite of the Doyle storyline. Even now, I get weak just thinking about it.

I wrote a story that took 8 years, as well--with a total rewrite, so I well understand! It's like the thing will never, ever end.

When I first started Exiles, I thought it was going to be a shortish piece. But when it hit 10,000 words and I'd only started getting the plot in place I realized it was going to be a lot longer. And even then, I had to show it to a friend to assure me there was no way it was going to be less than novel length. And yeah, it definitely felt like it was never going to end, especially when I had to re-write that whole plot thread.

Thanks for the list, I love, love Firsts and Exile and I am keen to read others that I seem to have missed. Its also heartening to find out I'm not alone in taking ages to write a story. I find them bloody hard work and sometimes wonder why I put myself through it and I've barely written anything to date in comparison. I look forward to picking your writing brain in August ;) *g*

I occasionally have stretches where I can write fast (when I first fell into Take That, I wrote a 10,000 word story in two weeks) but more usually it takes me forever to finish anything. It doesn't help that my favourite sort of story to write is a long one with lots of meaty plot and loads of research required. :-/

Feel free to pick away at my meagre brain in August!
