Hockey and Stucky!

Since Ros is doing her black belt next year (OMG!) she won't be playing hockey.

I, however, have signed up again for the women's learn to play lessons. I don't even know how this happened, but it turns out I kinda enjoy hockey. Or at least learning hockey skills. I may sign up for league play the year after.

In fannish news, I've got my Cap RBB story finished, formatted and ready to go, and my artist and I have a game plan for posting. My posting date is May 28th, so I'll be able to share the story and the fabulous art that inspired it then.

I've also just crossed the 10,000 word mark for my Stucky BB story, and have finally outlined where this sucker is going. And I've got a decent summary put together ready for the artist claims. There are, apparently, way more writers than artists, but I'm not going to stress about the claims too much. This is a story I want to write whether or not there's art for it. Not that it wouldn't be cool to get claimed.

Congrats on finishing your Cap RBB story! I'm still working on mine. I was sick for half of April which really slowed me down. I chose a posting date in late June. And I just signed up for the Marvel Big Bang. I'm going to do a sequel to the story I posted last year. I did some work on it last year, since there was more of the story to tell, and figured this year's Big Bang would be the perfect goal to aim for.

I briefly considered signing up for the Marvel BB, but I figured two BBs was enough for one year. (Three, if I miraculously pull off a Pros BB story, though I'm not counting on that.) Plus I've got a ton of shorter pieces and one longer series that I want to get to work on after the BBs are done.

Yeah, two BBs are enough. I did three challenges last year, but only one was a BB; the others had a smaller word count. I still managed 16,000 words between the two of them. And, I really need to get back to a novel I've had in progress since 2014.

Good luck with the novel! I've written one novel-length story (in Pros) and it took me about eight years to finish.

I've written five novels (50,000+ words) in three fandoms over the course of (gulp) 40 years in fandom. The shortest amount of time it took me was 3 months and I wrote it in longhand in the 80s. The longest amount of time it took me was three years. The one I wrote last year took six months. I made a point of writing 300-500 words a day five days a week, no matter if they were utter crap, and then spent a lot of time editing it. That method worked out pretty well. I'm using it on my CapRRB story.

I've written a number of stories in the 30K to 50K range, they usually take me anywhere from 3 to 6 months of writing time. But that novel, (just over 80K words) took forever. It had fairly complex plotting, and then after I had a complete draft (oh, about four years in) some comments from a reader made me rip one of the main subplots completely out and redo it from scratch.

My current method is to do an hour of writing in the morning before anyone gets up. I used to be a total nighthawk when it came to doing creative stuff, but now I find I spin my gears at night, but get stuff done fairly efficiently in the morning.

Ros doing her black belt is rather terrifying. Especially since I know first hand how intense it is. (I could do my second degree this year, but I don't feel ready. I think I'm going to wait and do it when Ros does hers in another two years.)

It should be three BB stories, but I suspect I'm not going to get the Pros one done. But hey, miracles do happen!

The Sweetie just about killed himself laughing anytime we were watching a Leafs playoff game and I said, "wow, that was a really great play." A year ago, I wouldn't have noticed a good hockey play if it had bit me on the arse. ;-)

Yeah, I'm so not going down the Hockey RPS rabbit hole. I'm just holding off on reading Marvel RPS by the skin of my teeth. And when I say "holding off" I mean I've only read one or two stories. I figure two RPS fandoms is enough for one fangirl. *g*

And yeah, if you're Canadian, hockey by itself is ice hockey. All other types (ball and field) get a qualifier.

And yay for hockey, that's awesome that you're playing. I'm a huge fan (my Sens are kicking ass, we're so not supposed to be here but I'm so enjoying the ride) but can't skate to save my life. Ros doing her black belt is fabulous, too, you're raising an awesome young woman.

The RBB is down, just the BB to go. This fandom has certainly proved inspiring.

Skating is not something to be taken up lightly in adulthood. The Sweetie took lessons a couple of years ago ( he managed to grow up in northern Ontario without learning how to skate) and he can still only just barely make his way around the ice. I'm working on getting a decent crossover going, but they're kind of terrifying.

We do seem to be raising a great kid.

I'd say good luck to your Sens, but with the Leafs out I'm afraid I'm cheering for the Preds. I'd love to see Subban get a Stanley Cup, especially after Montreal went and traded him, the bastards.

I completely understand, if the Sens were out I'd feel exactly the same way. If not us, I'd like to see Nashville win it and Subban is such a good man on and off the ice. We lost last night which means that there will be a Game 6, and because I'm crazy, I'm going to go up for that and then out to Media West. I've never been to a playoff game before and I'm really looking forward to it, although the logistics are insane. I'm just hoping the final doesn't wind up being Pens-Ducks, if that happens I'm rooting for a sinkhole to open up at center ice and suck down both teams.

That's exactly it with the skating, I'm too scared of falling and breaking something to really give it a try at my age. My niece isn't afraid of anything and just gets right back up. Good luck with the crossovers but you've certainly got the bravery to try it which is wonderful.

We caught the final period of the Sens' Sunday game. Ouch! And I'd forgotten Kessel got traded to Pittsburgh. I'm now totally rooting for the Sens to take out the Pens. At least the Ducks won't be in the finals!

It's so much easier to break something skating when you're an adult. And especially when you're tall, like you and the Sweetie. I'm still more brittle than a kid, but at least I've got a lot less distance to go down to the ice. I don't know that I'm brave, but I try. Our hockey instructor always tells us to remember we're warriors! That always makes me smile.
