Footie Wrap Up
Aug. 30th, 2018 09:19 pmLook! A post!
It's been ages since I've posted here (it's been a bit of a hectic year), but thought I'd do a season wrap up of our footie season since I've missed posting about our team this year.
I was meant to be co-coaching with the mom of one of Ros' best friends, but the league was short of coaches this year so we each got our own team. Which meant I drafted the Sweetie again to help run the lineups.
Our team wasn't quite as enthusiastic as last year. On a good week, we'd get 6 or 7 girls at practice, and sometimes not many more than that at the game. And while we have a lot of kids with good to great skills, we didn't have any kids who could really take it to their end and score. So this year we were that team. The one that mostly doesn't win. (Near the end of the season we did win one and tied one. I was on vacation for both of those games. I'm trying not to take it personally.)
But in spite of our record, they were a nice bunch of kids, and they showed real growth during the season. At our last game, they were passing really well and making plays and putting pressure on the other team. And one of the best things that happened was I drafted one of our smallest players who hadn't played goal yet this year to be keeper in the first half, and she did amazing. She made some really stunning saves and didn't let a single goal in. And she was so proud of herself!
On the downside, in the second half, they scored on us three times, but they honestly weren't goals we could have defended against. They had a player (who we had last year) that can make these killer shots from mid-field that go over everyone's head and right into the back of the net.
We've got a couple of games left for our playoff Cup Weekend, which will be a nice way to round off the season.
