Yuletide Writing

I actually have a complete first draft of my Yuletide story done! It even has a title!

Now I have time to let it sit for a few days before giving it a once over to make sure it doesn't suck.

And I'm hoping I may be able to write a Treat or two this year. Fingers crossed!

Yay for writing! I pounded out 800 words last night when inspiration hit.

That’s fantastic. Especially since I assume you’re in the middle of grading insanity. I churned this story out in chunk of 500 to 1,000 words.

I’m at the same stage. All done, titled (which is weird, that usually takes me up to the last minute), and now it’s time for revision and polishing. Whew! \o/

The writing of this story has been weirdly easy. I didn’t struggle over any of it, and just when I started thinking, well, coming up with a title will be hard at least, one popped into my head. I’m still half convinced that it sucks, but it’s a nice change from the Marvel monstrosity I just finished that was more than ten times as long and where every word was like pulling teeth.

And having the luxury of being able to put it aside for a few days before giving it a final polish is wonderful!

I love finishing before deadlines, so there is time to set it aside and then do a proper final read/fix-as-needed. Yay!

I used to write down to the deadline for assignments in undergrad, but by the time I hit grad school And then writing for zines, I realized that having the luxury to let something sit for a few days and come back to it fresh was soooo helpful.

There are still times when I cut too close to a deadline, but I try not to put myself in that position too often.

Well done! I am being pursued by bears to the deadline - just about to go and do some more work on it now in fact - mostly because of sheer lack of available typing time

I kept expecting the bears to chase me down on this one, but it was a ridiculously easy write. I’m now half expecting my beta to tell me it’s crap, but somewhat optimistic that she’ll think it’s okay. (For the first time ever the Sweetie wants to read one of my stories because it’s for one of his favourite movies of the last five years. I am debating whether this is a good idea. :X)

Woohooo! Congrats on getting the draft done, that's wonderful. I posted my Pros Christmas story today, that went down to the wire yesterday and I was mad at myself, but at least it got finished. It's great that you'll have time to let yours marinate and then go back to it.
