I noticed that [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star posted that the SCREWZ award winners had been posted, so I figured I'd amble over and check 'em out. And found out that I actually managed to win two of the crazy things, one for my U.N.C.L.E. story, Prodigal's Return (in Relative Secrecy 7) and one for my Wild Wild West story, The Night of the Opium Den (in Gentlemen Never Tell 7) For those keeping score, both also won Fan Qs this year.

Here's the interesting thing. Prodigal's Return has no sex in it, not even a hint. There are thousands of miles between Illya and Napoleon in the story, physically and emotionally. Though it's part of an ongoing series where they will, eventually, end up together, they're certainly not together in this story. And yet it's winning slash awards. Interesting. (I'm sure this is also part of the reason why I'm accused by certain people of writing so-called "genslash". To which I would respond that while I don't always feel the need to write sex scenes, sometimes I have a great deal of fun with them.)

Anyway, for those wanting to see the full list of winners, you can find them here:

Congrats to [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star, for her win for Pros Artwork, [livejournal.com profile] stormheller for her win for Due South novella, and [livejournal.com profile] walfox for her win for Miscellaneous (X-Files) Story. Not to mention [livejournal.com profile] graculus for both U.N.C.L.E. and Wild Wild West novella.

Obviously, I'm in complete agreement with you. It's the relationship that makes it slash, not just the sex. And really, these days I'm mostly skimming sex scenes unless the writer is particularly skilled.

Still, I'm finding it amusing that the story has won slash awards, because the central relationship is, temporarily at least, dead during its course.

but they're agonising over it... it's the whole reason the story exists...

In Pros my utter favourite Slash novel is Larton. There is NO SEX... well... not described... but you know they're at it like minks...

The story is all about their relationship and their love for each other... in the setting of the show/movie/book or something reasonably close. (not musch of an extreme AU fan... but that's another discussion) Yours is like that, how will they as a couple solve the dilemma in a manner consistent with the world they are set in? We all know NS & IK love each other and the read is about how they discover/come to terms/act upon said love. That's slash baby!

and this from the queen of graphic smut...

And I'll start another fight by saying this:
Sex only (IE no relationship dealings just two or more people goin at it) = porn

And nothing wrong with Porn, but not all slash is porn as not all porn is slash...

I have to admit, I'm one of those completely immune to the charms of Larton. Not that I hate it. It just seems completely underwritten to me. That said, I can understand those who enjoy it.

Heee.... well it is a love or not type of thing.

However it is a illustration of the point. It's definitely slash... and there's definitely no graphic sex... So feh on those who give you stick!

and again let me send my condolences on the lack of Les Specialistes in France.... but I'm sure the pain aux raisins made up for it!!!! :)

I was very sad not to find Les Specialistes, but yes, pain aux raisins helped to ease the pain. As it were. (I'm currently on the lookout for a good local French bakery.)
