AO3 Top Ten Hits Meme - 2019 Edition
May. 12th, 2019 10:47 pmList your ten fics at AO3 that have had the most hits.
I've been doing this meme around this time of year since 2011, mostly as a way of tracking both what I'm writing and what bubbles up. I missed last year (with Ros doing her black belt, the whole year was kind of nuts and I didn't do much posting) but thought I'd jump back in this year. I'm still big into Marvel, and this year is the first time the top ten is all Marvel, all the time.
1. You're the One That I Want
Stucky. A story I wrote for
debwalsh for the 2018 Fandom Trumps Hate auction. It was meant to be a simple fake relationship story, and blew up into this hurt/comfort, modern AU, 53K word epic. It's the second longest thing I've ever written, after my Pros novel, Exile. It's also the only story I've posted a chapter at a time, which was evil of me given that it's built on a series of escalating cliffhangers.
2. Faraway, So Close
Stuckony. (That would be Steve/Bucky/Tony.) Written as a pinch hit for the 2018 Cap Reverse Big Bang, and part of my headlong rush into writing Marvel polyamory. See also #11 The Jeopardy and Jazz Affair (Steve/Bucky/Natasha) and #12 Mrs. Wilson's Boys (Steve/Bucky/Sam)
3. Captain America Has a Fella
Stucky. First story in a series, and one of the first Marvel stories I wrote. The series is told mostly from the POV of one of the USO show girls Steve toured with at the beginning of The First Avenger, and it's one of my favourite things I've written. #2 in 2017.
4. The Altar Boy Act
Stucky. The very first Marvel story I wrote, and mostly a response to Steve's idiotic "Language," line in Age of Ultron. #1 in 2017.
5. Captain America Is Out and Proud
Stucky. Part 2 of the Captain America Has a Fella series. Freshly thawed out Steve finds his USO showgirl friend, now a grandmother and running a dance school. #4 in 2017.
6. Captain America Finds His Fella
Stucky. Part 3 of Captain America Has a Fella. Steve finds Bucky. #7 in 2017.
7. Brooklyn Runaways
Stucky. Written for the 2017 Cap Reverse Big Bang. Bucky and a pre-serum Steve negotiating their feelings in 1930s America. I love writing skinny, Depresson-era Steve, and I'm really fond of this story.
8. Captain America Finds His Happy Ending
Stucky. Part 5 of Captain America Has a Fella. Bucky convinces Steve to finally get out of the fight. #6 in 2017.
9. A Goddamn Winter Wonderland
Stucky. Modern AU, written for a 2017 Marvel Christmas fic exchange. Steve and Bucky are snowed in at a cabin. But will they have to share a bed?! One of the tropiest stories I've ever written. In a good way, I hope!
10. Captain America Finds His Fella – missing scene
Stucky. Part 4 of Captain America Has a Fella. I originally wrote this as a scene in Captain America Finds His Fella and a way of everyone avoiding the nonsense that was Civil War, but the POV didn't match the rest of the story, so I pulled it out as a piece on its own. Steve and Tony have an actual adult conversation.
You have to go down to #14, my Edge of Tomorrow story, The First Time 'Round , to get non-Marvel on my list now. Which makes me a bit sad, but it also inevitable in a fandom as huge as Marvel is.
