It's been a big week for footie, even apart from the U.S. Women's win of the World Cup. (I may have been rooting for Canada, but I love Megan Rapinoe and the U.S. WNT.)

I'm coaching Ros' team again this year, and even though Ros is at camp that meant hitting the field for a game and a practice. (I'm co-coaching with a mom of one of Ros' friends, but this week her kid was under the weather, so it was solo coaching for me, with the Sweetie drafted to do lineups.)

We had perfect weather for both game and practice, not too warm with just a hint of a breeze to keep you cool. And even though we only had 9 girls turn out, they won handily, 9 - 4. (That was way higher scoring than any of our other games, but the other team only had 7 girls, which meant they had no subs playing 7 on 7.)

Six girls turned out for the practice, so I only ran 30 minutes of drills before kicking them loose a bit early.

In other footie news, I was in charge of a Soccer Night for my work. I joined the Social Committee this year, and figured I might as well take that on as one of my lead activities. I also figured how hard could it be?

The answer to that question was... pretty fucking hard.

The school right beside our office where we usually have Soccer Night was completely booked up for the entire summer and into September. Then ensued several weeks of me trying to find another field to book that wasn't so far that people couldn't easily get to it. And then figuring out what day people would actually show up for. And also harassing our finance manager to sign the damn contract for booking the field. And to give me a cheque to pay for it. And then getting people to sign up. And there were thunderstorms sweeping through the city earlier in the afternoon so I kept fielding texts from people asking if it was cancelled. (It wasn't.) And then a bunch of people dropped out when big meetings went way over time. So, that was a lot.

But on the positive side, we had 8 people show up so we could play 4 a side, and a few more attended to cheer us on, and I didn't embarrass myself even though it was stinking hot and I was playing against people who were mostly 20 years younger, so yay!

Yay for your soccer! Boo for work-related wrangling, although congratulations for making it work, despite all. Hah, and love it that you did well against the young ones. *g* I remember playing city-league soccer on a girls team when I was young...it was so much fun. And so dependent on parents like you. It's brilliant that you're doing things like this.

Happy summer to you and Ros and the Sweetie!

Sounds like a good experience with the girls. Other than booking the field... :)

The World Cup was amazing! I also (of course!) wasn't cheering for the USA but I too love Megan Rapinoe :) So cool that you and Ros are still so involved at grass-roots level - playing, coaching, organising, it's fab!!
