Yuletide Assignment Complete!

I have just finished a complete draft of my Yuletide assignment, a mere 4 hours and 38 minutes before it was due. It's the longest Yuletide story I've ever written, clocking in at just over 8K words, and at the moment it's the only story for it's canon on AO3. Cool.

In other news, it was also my birthday today. Given the year, and the fact that I needed to finish my Yuletide story, it was a low key celebration. The Sweetie's work had scheduled online cooking and mixology classes for today in lieu of a Christmas party. So we made Peruvian potato salad and ceviche, and mixed up a couple of Kentucky Mules. I haven't had any alcohol for over two years on account of it was giving me migraines 100% of the time I had a drink, but I risked it today. And so far, so good.

The family was very good to me, present-wise. I got two comics trade collections (Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen, which has ended up on a number of year end best of lists, and 80 Years of the Bat Family, because I may read a lot of Marvel now, but my first mainstream comic love was Batman) and two comic-related movies (Birds of Prey, because how much do I love Margot Robbie's Harley, and Batman: Death in the Family, because it gives you a way to save Jason Todd.)


Me with a mason jar of bourbon and ginger beer. (All I can say is, you know you work for a software company when they send you pretty good bourbon.)


Me and my haul of pressies! And with my Yuletide assignment done and me being on holidays for two weeks starting noon tomorrow, I will have plenty of time for reading and watching!

The canon is pretty old and obscure, but it's also something I've loved since I was a kid, so I'm glad I finally matched on it.

The Sweetie's work does pretty good work celebrations even in a non-pandemic year.

The two weeks of holidays is going to be glorious. I'm going to chill and read and write and play boards games. Yay!

And also, Happy Birthday! A Kentucky Mule sounds great right about now--as does a mixology class, actually. A few years ago, in the Before Times, I went to a class all about bitters--learning about them, and making them, and most importantly making drinks with them.

I hope they enjoy it. It was fun to write. (Writing this year, what little I've done, has mostly been excruciating, so that was a nice change.)

I have a new appreciation of bitters. I never got the point of them, and then I was over at a friend's party and her son offered to make me a G&T. He'd recently gotten really into mixology and made it with super good gin and one of his huge collection of bitters and it was the best G&T I've ever had.

Congratulations on finishing your Yuletide story! Very curious as to the fandom. I did a Yuletide story for the first time ever this year - I wanted a kickstart to get back into writing as I haven't written anything else in 2020. Very pleased the very obscure fandom I most wanted to write for had exactly one person wanting it as a match. I still need to do some editing, and will in the next couple of days, before the first reveal happens.

And yeah for getting good pressies!

It’s comforting to hear someone else hasn’t been able to write this year. What with the pandemic, preceded by a broken wrist and a concussion, I’m now more than a year late on a MTH auction story. But I’ve done Yuletide every year for ten years, and was hoping it would kickstart me again. Seems it did, so now I just need to transfer the writing energy to the auction story.
