This is way past its best before date, so I'm just going to hit the highlights. And, um, the stuff I can remember.

Stripped by [livejournal.com profile] gwyn_r (Fast and Furious)
Perfect song choice meshes with gorgeous editing choices to strip the movie to its slashy essentials. (If only Paul Walker was one quarter as interesting as Vin Diesel, I would be sucked into this nascent fandom like nobody's business.)

66 by [livejournal.com profile] sisabet and [livejournal.com profile] drdawn (QAF US)
I have no affection for the US version of QAF, and Brian and Justin irk me no end. And yet I still enjoyed this vid immensely. It was glittery and fun and full of love. (I'm still not going to watch the show, though.)

Why by [livejournal.com profile] permetaform (Smallville)
I never made it past the first six months of Smallville, but this vid almost makes me wish I had. It's a brilliant Lex character study, with an extremely interesting flashback structure. And it's [livejournal.com profile] permetaform's first vid. Jeezus.

Wild West Show by [livejournal.com profile] recycledmedia (Multi-Fandom)
A fun multi-media vid with a lot of my favourite fandoms represented, so what's not to like.

Flying Home by [livejournal.com profile] morgandawn (Due South)
My affection for this vid has only grown since I first saw it at Escapade. Parallel moments of Fraser, Ray and Ray mixed with glorious nature footage lead to a shattering climax. Wow.

Too Sexy by Diana Williams (Alan Rickman)
An extremely fun tribute to the wonder that is Alan Rickman, in all his various manifestations.

Gravity by [livejournal.com profile] permetaform (PotC)
Wow, a serious vid about Jack Sparrow. And it works. Brilliantly.

Little by Little by [livejournal.com profile] lithium_doll (Pros)
I adore this vid. [livejournal.com profile] lithium_doll's vids not only bear up to repeated viewings, they demand them. This one shows the toll the job takes on Bodie and Doyle, and does so in really interesting ways. Doesn't hurt that I love the song.

Imagine by Mudd (1984)
Disturbing, subversive and extremely well done. Places Lennon's pacifist anthem against Orwell's dystopia, with extremely unsettling results. And I mean that in a good way.

Lucky You by [livejournal.com profile] permetaform (The Ring)
The jarring editing, weird colour effects and jagged music work perfectly to convey the eerieness of the source movie.

Falling In Love by [livejournal.com profile] killabeez & T. Jonesy (ST-TOS)
Sheer genius. Kirk/Spock comedy that is far too much fun. (If they keep this up, I'll actually start reading K/S, and I don't know if I can handle that.)

I Am the Highway by [livejournal.com profile] morgandawn (Jeremiah)
A really nice exploration of the relationship between Jeremiah and Kurdy. I really have to pull out my tapes of this show and finally sit down and watch the damn thing.

The Mountain by [livejournal.com profile] melina123 & [livejournal.com profile] astolat (LotR)
Frodo's struggle with the Ring paralleled by Aragorn's struggle to attain the throne of Gondor. A gorgeous vid, beautifully told.

This Is War by [livejournal.com profile] lithium_doll (Goldeneye)
At the moment, this is my absolute favourite vid. The song is a perfect choice for the movie, and it follows the twisted path of the relationship between James Bond and Alec Trevelyn. And like so many of lithium's vids, the structure gets more interesting the more you see it. I'm sooo glad I got to see this on the big screen.

Pretty When You Cry by [livejournal.com profile] lierdumoa (Oz)
A really intesting and twisted take on the Beecher/Keller relationship. (Of course, can there be anything but a twisted take on those two guys?) Great stuff.

My West Hollywood Lifestyle (Whatever) by [livejournal.com profile] sisabet & [livejournal.com profile] sockkpuppett (Angel)
What can I say, except that this vid is Too. Much. Fun.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'll just say that my vids Gay Bar, The Fear and No Fear, No Hate, No Pain also played at the show. You can find them at przed.com/vids.

The plot of the movie is very slight--two unemployed actors at the end of the 1960s drink a lot, go on vacation to an uncle's cottage, one of them is propositioned by the uncle, one of them gets a job, they go back to London--but the pleasure of the film is in the performances and the dialogue. And it's both screamingly funny and terribly tragic all at once.

As for Uncle Vernon, in Withnail he plays Uncle Monty and he's really more pathetic than sinister. (I played up the sinister aspects for the vid.)
