I've been struggling with chronic pain, and struggling to find health practitioners who take it seriously and provide non-pharmacological ways of dealing with it, since I was 17. At the ripe old age of 39, I'm only now, finally, finding some clinics and therapists out there who share my philosophy of medical care. (I'm educated, motivated and have friends who work in health care. You wouldn't think it would be that difficult.)
And I'm not the only one.
Salon has an excellent interview today with Paula Kamen, who's written what sounds like an interesting memoir on living with chronic pain:

If you're suffering chronic pain, know someone who is or are in any way interested in women's health issues, I recommend you read the interview. And I'm going to be getting her book ASAP.
