Glad to be home

Just got back from a week and a bit in B.C. We had to go out for Don's sister's wedding, and decided we might as well make a vacation of it. Though what with recently having been in London, we're both looking forward to a travel-free summer.
The trip was, unlike London, mostly completely relaxing. We spent two days in Victoria, a lovely city. It would have been perfect if we hadn't decided to go whale-watching. The whale part was amazing--we saw a super-pod of over twenty orcas, several of which got quite close to the boat--but we'd forgotten about Don's motion sickness. He's been pretty good the last few years, but we didn't reckon on high winds, big swells and a smallish boat. Needless to say, I saw the whales; Don saw the bathroom. Poor guy. At least we didn't go in a wee rubber zodiac.
After Victoria, we went to Salt Spring Island, which is even better. It's a small island with a high number of artists and artisans, and couple of wee villages and gorgeous scenery. We bought pottery and hand dyed sheets, had some lovely meals and local goat cheese and generally wished we'd had longer on the island. As an added bonus, our B&B was on the side of a mountain and had an outdoor hot tub. The second night we partook of said hot tub and watched the forest and ocean as the sun set. Ahhh.
The wedding itself was very nice, and I even survived staying in a B&B with Don's mom, stepdad, aunt and uncle. (In two weeks, the Big Guy's dad and his girlfriend are visiting us for a week. At that point, Don will officially Owe Me Big Time in the family department.)
I doubt I'll get totally caught up on the flist, but I'll make a stab at it. If anything cool has happened while I was gone, do let me know.
Edit: Jeez, I almost forgot the most amazing part of the trip. We got to see the Kaiser Chiefs at the Commodore Ballroom. KC are a hot new act from Leeds and their rep as a great live act is entirely earned. Their biggest single, I Predict a Riot, is awesome, and they totally ripped up the stage for the whole show. Plus, the first opening act, OK Go, were awesome. They're not only really tight musically, but they have the dandified fashion sense of Oscar Wilde. And I mean that as a good thing. (Picture paisley shirts, funky ties and boldly coloured suit coats.) Alas, the middle band, The Caesars, pretty much sucked. They couldn't even make Jerk It Out, their one real hit, sound decent live.

Date: 2005-06-14 06:05 am (UTC)Do you have any music by the groups you mentioned? I am always looking for new music to 'discover'.
I can totally relate to banking family time. After Rebecca's sister's wedding next month I have a lot of credit to built up. That's provided I can make through the actual wedding without losing it.
Hope to catch up with you and Don in the next couple of weeks.
