For any Canadian Pros fans with digital cable on the flist (there must be another one of us, no?) CBC's CountryCanada is running the first episode of The Chief with Martin Shaw today. It's on at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST.

I shall be adding it to the PVR, and hopefully, eventually, copying it over to DVD.

Can you export fairly easily from your PVR?

I've been thinking of upgrading our Digital cable box to a PVR since you and the boy got yours.

It's not wickedly easy, but do-able. I can either tape at SP and then use my capture device with a VCR to get it on my computer or move the whole box up to where the computer is and capture straight from it. Due to the hassle of moving the bloody box, I'm probably going to live with the resolution degradation and use tape.

I have the entire Chief series (well, the MS eps) on DVD ....

Hmmm. Though I'd hate to ask you to copy 'em when I'm ambivilent on the show myself.

:whispering: Any chance of getting a copy?
I've been drooling over Aerye's comments and wishing I could see it...

For some reason I didn't get this comment emailed to me ... sure, I can make both of you copies. The question is, do you want the entire series, or do you just want one season or something to see if you like it?

Also, I'm not necessarily a speed demon ... Probably wouldn't happen until early next month ....

I'm going to be noble, and say no for the moment. I'm going to try making my own DVDs from the PVR version. Leaving you free to make copies for [livejournal.com profile] paris7am. Of course, if I fall too far behind on making the DVDs, I may come back begging you to copy 'em for me. At your convenience, of course.

*sighs* So near and yet so far is CBC! I've still never seen The Chief!

I have to admit, I'm pretty ambivilent on what I've seen of the show. It's shot on video, so it looks like crap, and the acting/writing/directing is of highly variable quality. But Martin looks gorgeous and his character is fairly interesting, possibly what Doyle might have become if he'd gotten control of his temper and made a conscious effort to rise through the ranks of the Met.

Hmmn! How about A&E (Always and Everyone?), have you seen any of those? That's another one that I missed...

I've seen the first series of A&E and quite liked it, though it never grabbed me entirely. And I had to stop watching it when I hit an episode that was rather too close to what happened when my father nearly died of pneumonia when I was a teenager.

I think I've still got the tapes of the first series kicking around. I'll see if I can find them and dub 'em for you. But it may take me till after Christmas to get around to it. We're a bit crazy at the moment getting ready for Christmas and both our birthdays. (December birthdays are, how shall I put this, not ideal.) Remind me at the end of the month if I haven't mentioned it.

Oh my - thank you for the A&E offer! Only if it's not too much bother though, honestly! (I was gonna say "no bother", but the little Doyle-shaped devil whispering sweet nothings in my ear got the best of me).

And you both have december birthdays? That's very poorly-organized of you! And yet terribly caught-up-in-the-excitement-festive...

No worries. It's always fun to spread the Martin love. Just give me some time to find the tapes and get them dubbed.

The December birthday thing used to be compounded by having the anniversary of our first date smack in the middle of them. At least now we've got a much more reasonable October wedding anniversary to celebrate instead.

Hmmn - well now I'm curious about that! As little as a few months ago I had MS and Doyle completely separated in my head, and I still do for anything that counts. But I do like watching JJD and thinking - oh that's so Doyle! Although Doyle wouldn't be Doyle without all that fire and dark temper... I can see JJD holding that back sometimes too, which is interesting. And it all makes me wonder about how much of ourselves we put into acting or writing or whatever, and if we're ever really separate. Or is that the real talent of it? Or...

PS - messed up where I posted this, so deleted and re-posted. Hope that didn't mess up your lj..

I'm really conflicted with JJD. BBC Canada was showing it when we got digital cable, so I've got the last three episodes of season 4 on the PVR. And I have to say I was yelling at the screen while watching the first of those eps because he can be such a jerk, at least when it comes to women. Why Jenny Seagrove is still even talking to him, I'll never know. Still, I'll have to steel myself to watch the last two eps.
