I ripped the first three seasons yesterday ... the fourth I'll do tonight.
I'm ready to go! (Though I'll be away for a week, the first week of July). And you got my email, right? Oh wait, I know you did. I know I talked about vidding somewhere buried in there!!! Yay!
[last night was remastering my remasters of DP from the new DVDs ... now *there's* obsession for you!]
I am so, so bad ... I just bought another 500G HD ...
So: I have all my "main" Pros rips on the internal secondary 250G HD (which is my vidding drive). I'm going to use the new external 500 (which uses Firewire 800!) to back up my main 300G HD and my vidding drive. And I have another external 300, which right now has all the old Pros DVD rips on it (because if I delete those I lose I Don't Know Why, unless I redo it from the new rips, since I did it from the full DVD rips and not from clips which would be a bummer - not that I need it, but I put a lot of extra clips in it that I thought might be useful for later vids), and I guess I'll just use it for Stuff.
Plus I have another external 300G that I use to back up the laptop...
OMG, I think I have way too much storage! But it always seems to all be full, with all the vid stuff I do - I mean the con.txt vid show took up a lot of room!
As for remastering the remaster, that was pretty easy - since I'm doing it from the full DVD rip, and I have the premaster roject right in front of me in Premiere, I can just match it up frame for frame; I don't have to figure out which ep it's from or go hunting for the right scene (the frames numbers/times don't match up precisely, but it's pretty close). I was thinking it'd be cool to have A Fire Is Burning redone from the new DVDs, but since I didn't do that one myself, it'd require me to hunt down all the clips - just like a remaster from scratch (unless Gwyn gave me the list; I suppose I could ask her if she wants me to), and that's not too appealing!
Perfectionist much, me?! Nah ... ;-D
But ... side by side, when you're vidding, the new DVDs often look much, much better. There are clips in which there's not much difference, but in many cases the difference is really noticeable - particularly in scenes with white backgrounds, like hospitals, which have a really green cast in the original DVDs, and that's much improved in the new ones. There are a few odd cases in which I think the old ones look better, but overall I think the new ones will yield much better vids.
Though the packaging is a pain in the ass - when you take the cases out of the "slipcovers," there's no indication what season each one is, unless you unfold the case and look at the episode list, or the discs themselves!!! And the colors of the cases aren't even that distinct, particularly seasons one and two! Stupid!

You are the queen of remasters. (The mere thought of redoing all my vids makes me slightly queasy.)
