Sitting on my desk is the remastered set of Professional disks, freshly delivered from Amazon UK.

My fingers are now itching to get started on a new Pros vid. ([livejournal.com profile] justacat, how 'bout you?)

i say scratch that itch! ::g::

been waffling back & forth about ordering the remastered set too so would love to hear what you think about them...over at the pros tv lounge forum at dave matthews site they have links to the sets at their great sale price and if you buy from amazon.uk thru those those links the pros tv lounge forum gets a small percentage of the sale to help pay for the cost of running the site...sort of an added incentive to waffle toward buying a 2nd set!

I ripped the first three seasons yesterday ... the fourth I'll do tonight.

I'm ready to go! (Though I'll be away for a week, the first week of July). And you got my email, right? Oh wait, I know you did. I know I talked about vidding somewhere buried in there!!! Yay!

[last night was remastering my remasters of DP from the new DVDs ... now *there's* obsession for you!]

I can take that kind of blame. *g*

Does this mean you might actually do that Clash vid? (She asks hopefully.)

Wow, you're good. I'm thinking I need to get a 500G drive just to hold my Pros rips.

I did get your email and will respond in more detail in the next day or two.

You are the queen of remasters. (The mere thought of redoing all my vids makes me slightly queasy.)

We compared the new and old versions of Everest when [livejournal.com profile] justacat, [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred were in England, and the new ones seem to have significantly cleaned up both print damage and the colours. I shall report back on my experience with my copies of the disks. (So can't wait.)

*cries* I looked at them when you gave us that heads up, even got as far as putting them in my basket, but couldn't complete the transaction then. I meant to come back to it but it ended up slipping my mind and now they're back up to full price.

But, I can get them for just under £60 inc delivery elsewhere so...

I meant to post a heads up when I saw that they'd gone back to full price. I'm *so* very glad I picked them up when I did.

Still, 60 pounds ain't bad.

I am so, so bad ... I just bought another 500G HD ...

So: I have all my "main" Pros rips on the internal secondary 250G HD (which is my vidding drive). I'm going to use the new external 500 (which uses Firewire 800!) to back up my main 300G HD and my vidding drive. And I have another external 300, which right now has all the old Pros DVD rips on it (because if I delete those I lose I Don't Know Why, unless I redo it from the new rips, since I did it from the full DVD rips and not from clips which would be a bummer - not that I need it, but I put a lot of extra clips in it that I thought might be useful for later vids), and I guess I'll just use it for Stuff.

Plus I have another external 300G that I use to back up the laptop...

OMG, I think I have way too much storage! But it always seems to all be full, with all the vid stuff I do - I mean the con.txt vid show took up a lot of room!

As for remastering the remaster, that was pretty easy - since I'm doing it from the full DVD rip, and I have the premaster roject right in front of me in Premiere, I can just match it up frame for frame; I don't have to figure out which ep it's from or go hunting for the right scene (the frames numbers/times don't match up precisely, but it's pretty close). I was thinking it'd be cool to have A Fire Is Burning redone from the new DVDs, but since I didn't do that one myself, it'd require me to hunt down all the clips - just like a remaster from scratch (unless Gwyn gave me the list; I suppose I could ask her if she wants me to), and that's not too appealing!

Perfectionist much, me?! Nah ... ;-D

But ... side by side, when you're vidding, the new DVDs often look much, much better. There are clips in which there's not much difference, but in many cases the difference is really noticeable - particularly in scenes with white backgrounds, like hospitals, which have a really green cast in the original DVDs, and that's much improved in the new ones. There are a few odd cases in which I think the old ones look better, but overall I think the new ones will yield much better vids.

Though the packaging is a pain in the ass - when you take the cases out of the "slipcovers," there's no indication what season each one is, unless you unfold the case and look at the episode list, or the discs themselves!!! And the colors of the cases aren't even that distinct, particularly seasons one and two! Stupid!

Yay! I can't wait!

I'm waffling like crazy over whether to get these or not ::sigh::

Are the extras (or what are laughingly called "extras") the same as on the original disks? If these have been improved then it might just be enough to sway me...

Date: 2006-06-23 05:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] przed.livejournal.com
I just cracked the slipcase to check and it looks like there are no extras whatsoever this time. Not that not having the old "extras" is any loss, but it would have been nice to have something new.

Just so you know, Amazon has put the price back up, but there might be a few places to get it cheaper.

There is no such thing as too much storage. (I think I might have to get a SATA card so I can put a 300G internal in my system. Nooo, more upgrades!)

I can't wait to take a look at the eps. No to mention vid!

they are still pulling up at 12.97 pounds thru the tv lounge link to amazon.uk & if you put them in the shopping basket the price stays the same and i wouldn't think if you hit checkout it would be different would it ????...been thinking since i want to order the first season of jjd & life on mars anyway i should just go ahead & get the remastered pros *argh decisions decisions*

I just threw DIAG in the player (because I can watch that one over and over) and while some scenes look not much different, there are others that made me go "wow!" Shall have to check out Stakeout. (Bodie sitting on Doyle is something I never tire of.)

Now here's a weird thing - I've been perusing the disks online yet again and have been weighing up the merits of the box set versus the individual seasons. On the box set it says quite plainly "57 episodes" yet on each of the four individual seasons it says "14 episodes." Now, I'm no mathematician but even I know that 14 x 4 equals 56. So where has that 57th ep gone to? And what is it?

Can anyone throw any light on this?

If you get that price in the shopping basket you should be fine. (I've had Amazon show a different price on my wish list and on the product's main page, but it's never changed once it's hit the basket.)

And I say bow to temptation and get jjd and lom as well. I already picked up both in a earlier order. (My DVD budget is officially shot for months.)

For you, I went and checked my boxes. Box four has 15 episodes, the rest have 14.

Thanks, P!

That little bit of info was all that was needed to push me over the edge - I've ordered the disks! Although what my other 'alf will say when he realises that I've got *two* sets of Pros disks probably doesn't bear thinking about...

;-)

You're welcome!

You can blame me if your other 'alf complains. I can take it. *g*

(My sweetie, on the other hand, pretty much egged me on to buy the new set. But then he's fannish, in other ways, himself.)
