Ya Win Some, Ya Lose Some
Oct. 8th, 2009 01:56 pmMy shiny, newish Mac Pro is fixed and sitting in our foyer.
Alas, it's going to continue sitting in the foyer until the Sweetie gets home tonight. It weighs a ton, and there's no way I'm going to try and drag it up to our third floor office. I just barely managed to get it down from there by myself.
I don't think I'll even have much time to set it up and make sure it really is happily fixed until Monday night, since I'm off to Stratford for the day tomorrow for more theatre (The Importance of Being Earnest and Cyrano De Bergerac with FJBryan), and then Saturday we're off to my mum's for Thanksgiving weekend.

Date: 2009-10-09 03:44 am (UTC)It's a long convoluted story best summed up in one drunk English woman explaining to two drunk American female friends how Valentine's Day is different in the UK than in America in that it's often used to woo a desired mate. Three drunken phonecalls to a singing telegram place later... and... well... let's just say I still call the OH the best $30 I ever spent. *eg* My office was above the classroom he was teaching in and I actually heard the roar from his students.
I don't use the OH's name either, never occurred to either of us and the only one who was taken aback was my Mother. Governments are by definition rather large bureaucracies and it's rather nice to be able to reside in the same country as your sweetie. *g*

Date: 2009-10-09 10:05 am (UTC)My mother wasn't so much taken aback that I didn't go with the Sweetie's name as disbelieving that I wouldn't take the opportunity to ditch a crazy name with too many vowels. (She went from a sensible Irish name to the Zed moniker.) Personally, I love having a name that puts fear in people's eyes when they have to say it. *g*
