It's been a much better day today.

I started off by pulling out of the running of both the questionable jobs. I immediately felt a ton less stressed, which tells me it was completely the right thing to do.

I then made a lightning run up to Parry Sound, arrived just in time to meet Mom and my cousin at the entrance to the hospital. The surgeon saw mom, and assured us that the bruising on her foot was just leftover blood from the surgery draining to the lowest point. It will dissipate soon enough, and mom is doing fine. This is an immense relief. (I'm glad we saw him, since the foot looks pretty alarming. More alarming is the fact that mom, my cousin, and the neighbour who's been checking on mom say the whole thing looked ten times worse yesterday. Yikes!)

I'm actually posting this via the good old Parry Sound Library wireless internet. Apparently they don't bother blocking LJ if you're using your own computer. (Hoorah for my shiny new Mac laptop. It's a beauty.)

Tomorrow I should be back in Toronto, and back doing the whole job search thing. (Though I'm thinking a repeat matinee viewing of Sherlock Holmes is in order. I really need to get a Holmes icon uploaded.)

I'm glad you've made the right decision for you and that you feel so much better for it. I'm also glad that your mom's foot is nothing to worry about.

Enjoy the Macbook and take yourself to the pictures - you certainly need a little light relief after all this lot IMO :)

I definitely think I made the right decision. And I think I'm going to take the pressure off myself for the next few days and just hang out. Time enough to restart the job hunt/figure out how to start my own business next week.

Good to hear that your mom is doing okay!

I had something similar happen ages ago, where I bruised my leg, just below my knee, and a couple of days later, sat on a bus and airplane for 18 hours.
When I arrived home, I couldn't get into my shoe, and my foot was hugely swollen and purple.
Had the same diagnosis as your mom, but it did look really scary.
Watching Sherlock Holmes again definitely sounds like a good decision and less stress about questionable jobs, too.

The physio finally showed up yesterday and told mom she just needs to sit with her foot up more. And move the foot around.

Your bus and airplane experience sounds dreadful. I had a similar experience, minus the bruising, when we flew to New Zealand via Hong Kong. By the time we finally made it to Wellington, my feet were swollen and barely fitting in my hiking boots. A little sleep, a little walking, and they went back to normal.

Good news all the way round! Glad to hear you got there safely and that Mom is doing well. Glad too that you've pulled yourself from contention for those two jobs. You know what's in your heart, smarty-pants. And finally--yay for new Macs, Sherlock and safe journeys home. I'll be thinking of you.

I'm definitely feeling better about everything. (The physio showed up yesterday before I left, and told mom she's doing better than 95% of the patients she sees. So go mom!

BTW, can't wait to see the rest of your vid. Even if you're totally going to make me cry again.

Yay for making the talented beta cry! ;-)

Actually, you probably won't see anything until the weekend. Someone else in the fandom just posted a Jo/Ellen vid (it actually highlighted all the women in SPN who were killed too soon). I didn't want to piggyback on that, so I decided to wait. There's so much going on in the danged fandom, it's hard to know when it's a good time to post.

I'm sure your vid will be loved, no matter when you post it. (And I'm grateful I've never been in a big, popular fandom with lots of posts. I can't even keep up with my little fandoms. And we shall not speak about all the Holmes/Watson stuff that's going up hourly. Oh, for infinite time.)

BTW, your postcards are, finally, going out in the mail today. They're in an envelope and addressed and everything.

I reread The Baltic Affair last night. I love the plotting and especially this line: "You must admit, it was a gloriously audacious ploy." Illya sounded far too pleased with himself, and a mischievous smile played on his lips. "I thought having myself smuggled out in a coffin was a nice touch."

Solo's reactions are good too.

Crikey, that was my very first UNCLE slash story. I'm still sort of amazed at how chaste it all is. *g*

I date back a bit. I probably formed my opinions a long time ago. Or it's because I use you as a Gen author on mfu_shortstorie as it's harder to find Gen than Slash each day.

*nods* Every time I break a foot bone, the toes slowly bruise up over the next couple of days until they're little black sausages (and then take until I'm almost out of the cast for the bruising to clear up.) What's really weird is when the broken bone is on the outside edge of my foot, the toes do it in succession, smallest to largest, over the space of three or four days. It looks awful, but other than the swelling pressure, it really doesn't hurt. Folks always go OMG! when they see it, though.

Dear lord, how many times have you broken bones in your feet? I've broken toes three times (once playing footie, once stubbing the previously broken toe, and once kicking our at-the-time brand new bed) and it was stupidly painful. All three times I had to take a few days and do nothing but sit with my foot up. (The first time, during uni, I tried walking to class, but when it took fifteen minutes to get five houses down the street, I turned around and went home.)

Once when I was 13, once in my 20s, and then December of both 1998 and 2003 (that last time I didn't even fall -- just had my ankle give way -- but still... snap! in two places.) Needless to say, I was very, very careful in December of 2008.

Glad your mom is ok and glad you decided against those two jobs.

I'm thrilled that, if I'm reading you right, you liked SH. I am madly in love w/ the entire movie, cast, script, director, etc. I just loved it. I am spending my evenings learning about RDJ and JL and reading movie!verse stories.

So if you ever want to talk about the movie, I'm your girl! Cyanne and I are supposed to see it again Friday night. I can't wait.

Anyway, I hesitate to use my new icon that Cyanne made b/c I'm afraid no one will know me w/o my B&D icon, but I'll use it the first time for this comment - it's still me even w/o B&D in my icon!

I was pretty convinced I was going to love the Holmes movie (I'm a Holmes buff from way back, but not too doctrinaire about canon) and I did! I'm totally up for Holmes chat. And look, I've finally got an icon or two.

It does sound like you may the best decision for you so yeah and yeah to your mum's issue not really being a problem. *twirls you*

I'm sorry to hear about what's happened to your mother, and I'm glad to hear that she's doing fine now. I'm glad to hear too that you're now feeling less stressed - everyone knows themselves best, and it sounds like you made the right decision for you. All the best with the job hunt!

And the Sherlock Holmes movie definitely bears repeated watching. It's a fantastic romp, isn't it?

What with pulling out of potentially unpleasant jobs, and having the surgeon and physio confirm that mom is doing fabulously, I'm feeling much better now.

As for Holmes, it is indeed a fantastic romp. And the slash is a definite bonus.
