Spreading the TT Love
Jun. 18th, 2011 08:17 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I seem to be working as a one woman P.R. campaign for Take That in Canada.
I've got Ros hooked on Patience, and had her ask me to make her a mix CD for daycare with TT songs so she can spread the word in the under 6 set.
I've got one of my best mates not only listening to the band, and coming over to watch the concert DVDs, but now reading the RPS. (She read my three stories and asked for recs!)
And now I seem to have hooked the other friend who came to see X-Men with us. After I bitched about them not including Love Love in the end credits, she asked me to send her a link to the video. So I did. I also sent her links to the video of Kidz, and their performance at the Brits. She passed the Kidz link along to her steampunk/music crazy sixteen-year-old son.
And today she sent me this in an email:

Is it bad that I'm feeling inordinately pleased with myself?
And hoping that I can one day be considered ground zero for Take That's takeover of North America. Or at least Toronto. (I have especially big hopes that the sixteen-year-old will start spreading the word at his school.)

Date: 2011-06-19 01:18 am (UTC)A sixteen year old boy spreading the word about TT? Erm...
BTW, I see you with your oh so pretteh Kool Aid but I'll just stick with the water... Still pretteh though. *g*
no subject
Date: 2011-06-19 02:11 am (UTC)The absurdity of it is part of what makes it so delicious. Mind you, said sixteen-year-old is an aspiring artist, mad about design, and has a load of gay friends, so I figure TT is perfect for him. *g*
The other crazy thing is the friend I've just managed to convert, the one with the son, is the one I usually go see The Who with.
Sure you don't want to try the koolaid? The pretteh is even pretteh-ier after you've had a sip. *g*

Date: 2011-06-19 02:17 am (UTC)They're pretteh, they're funny and I do like a good dance number but I've never developed much of a taste for pop music and y'know, that's a large piece of the pie.
Now if you need someone to see The Who with... *G*

Any time. *g* (Though I did turn down seeing Roger this year. It's just not the same seeing him without Pete.)

Date: 2011-06-19 04:32 am (UTC)Oh I *certainly* understand their charm and I'm grateful for it as it's always nice to be able to understand why my mates are interested in someone/a group even if it's just not my particular thing.
I'd mention some of the actors/groups where I don't understand my mates interest AT ALL but I don't wish to inadvertently offend any of your other flistees as I don't know their interests. *g*
I am all about The Pete and he's right about cowboys. *g*

I may not want to see Roger without Pete, but I would see Pete without Roger. In a heartbeat.

Due to having an older mate at uni who had been one of Jane Asher's flatmates I got to meet Pete very briefly backstage at a Who concert. I almost forgot to breathe.

Date: 2011-06-19 11:52 am (UTC)Iz jealous. He's in the top five of my people I'd lurv to meet list. Mind you, if I ever did meet him, I'd probably forget how to breathe/talk/not act like a blithering idiot, so it's probably best that I don't.

Date: 2011-06-19 03:51 pm (UTC)By the way - have you seen this? (Completely unrelated to your entry, but if you haven't seen this yet, you need to...) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2003338/Sean-Bean-stabbed-arm-following-row-glamour-model-April-Summers.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
Poor Sean, but isn't his reaction ("However, extraordinarily, he declined to attend hospital. Instead, the star walked back into the bar and, after staff gave him aid from a first aid kit, ordered another drink.") absolutely AWESOME?!? *is flabbergasted and dead impressed in equal shares*

Date: 2011-06-19 11:33 pm (UTC)I did see that news about Sean. The Sweetie sent me this article about it, which is pretty funny in itself. (Though I have to admit, I sometime despair over 1) Sean's taste in (much) younger women and 2) the fact that he's probably a bit too fond of having a pint or six.

Date: 2011-06-20 08:21 am (UTC)The article really is lovely - but I think I love the comments even more, especially this one: "You shouldnt fuck with Sean Bean because you can punch and stab him and the only thing that registers is his scotch is empty."
I loved how unnerved the Daily Mail was (in fact I always love when they're unnerved) that they weren't able to find out whether she's his girlfriend or not. So bless good old Sean. But yeah, I understand your worry - he should look better after himself and maybe stick to tea...see icon! :)
By the way: have I congratulated you to your Sweetie yet? You seem to have found yourself a very very precious specimen of the male species. Well done! :D

Date: 2011-06-20 09:28 pm (UTC)Thanks for the congrats on the Sweetie. He is a good 'un. He's not only slash-friendly, but a slash enabler. (He sees pairings I don't even notice.) Now all I have to do is brainwash him into liking TT. (I, just barely, got him to tolerate Robbie over the years, but he's not biting on TT.)

Date: 2011-06-21 05:24 am (UTC)Bless him, poor lad! Maybe give him a little bit more time and bribe him slowly with -let's say, the 'right'- excerpts of concert DVDs...you know the one with the pretty scantily-clad dancers? ;D
I hope I don't appear nosy, but I stumbled over your comments underneath and that you are planning a fic based on my favourite video?? Can I just say "Major SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and YESYESYESSSSSSS PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEEEEEE?!!!?!" *biiiiiig puppy eyes*

Date: 2011-06-21 10:56 pm (UTC)And YES, I totally want to do a story based on I'd Wait for Life. It's fantastic! Especially poor whumped-but-still-fighting!Mark. I take it you'd vote in favour of that plan. *g* (And be careful. I might just show up on your LJ doorstep wanting to bounce some ideas off you.)

Date: 2011-06-22 06:48 am (UTC)YESYESYESYESYESSSSSS! I totally adore this video - all the lost plot lines, all the time wondering what has happened to the poor lads, all of them whumped. Mark obviously a bank robber of sorts and then getting beat up and all! Howard slapped in the face and then all lost by the side of the road! Poor Gary in the car - contemplating suicide?? And Jason running, haunted by whatever and whoever. And the bubble-blowing. Oh the bubble-blowing! And the whole water thing! Did I mention I LOVE this video? (I seem to remember we talked about the making-of, but not about the video itself.) To be honest, I'm crap at making something out of these plot-lines, I've tried, I have, but I'm not getting anywhere. (It was the same with the Kidz-video, and then Halo wrote not just a fic, nooooo, she wrote THE EXPLANATION!) So, if you write an explanation for IWFL - I'll love you forever! *g* And if there's any chance I can help: I'll do whatever necessary! *is giddy with excitement*

Date: 2011-06-23 01:31 am (UTC)I'll see your YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES, and raise you an OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG! It is such a fantastic video. There's so much possibility, so many directions it could go in. Mark as bank robber (and is that Jason with him? Howard?) Jason running from someone? Toward someone? I hadn't thought of Gary contemplating suicide, but more him deciding if he has the guts to go and rescue the others. And yes, the bubble-blowing! And the water. (I could watch the shots of Mark in the water over and over again. In fact, I frequently do.)
At the moment I'm just watching the video a lot and letting my subconscious churn away on it whilst I work on my Pros Big Bang story. But once the Pros story is done (if that doesn't kill me) I totally want to work on something for IWFL. And yes, I will take you up on your offer and bounce some ideas around.
Halo's Kidz story is super fantastic, isn't it! It was one of the first TT stories I read, and at the time, since I was barely a week into knowing their names, let alone their personalities, I remember thinking Jason as the Doctor was an odd choice. Then I really threw myself into their history and realized that Jason is the perfect choice for the Doctor. And as much as I love the others in the story, it is of course Mark's shaman that I love most.

Date: 2011-06-19 10:57 pm (UTC)One reason Take That are so incredibly successful is that they can appeal to a wide range of people for a wide range of reasons and I love that you're encompassing so many different demographics in your pimping *g* They are NUMBER ONE AGAIN in the UK with Progress(ed) knocking off the Artic Monkeys (which we appreciate because the AM were very rude about them at the 2007 Brits and made Mark Owen sad and this is Not OK At All *g*).
I imagine the boys are celebrating in some (ahem) no doubt appropriate manner... *g*
no subject
Date: 2011-06-19 11:43 pm (UTC)You go, TT fangirl soldier!
I am doing my best. *g*
They do hit a lot of potential demographics. And as much as it's sort of a drag that they have no presence here, that also means that you don't have to fight people's misconceptions of what they are when you approach them with the old "there's this band I think you should give a listen to."
Hooray for Progressed hitting #1! (Though I have to say, I'm rather fond of the Arctic Monkeys. Can't help it; they're from Sheffield. I've got a soft spot for Sheffield, and his name is Sean Bean. Though making Mark Owen sad is Not On. (I remember that Brits, owing to the Bean giving them their award.))
Hmmm, contemplates appropriate celebratory revels. Tries not to encourage plot bunnies.
Just found the bit on YT of them slagging TT. The little bastards. :-(

Date: 2011-06-20 07:28 pm (UTC)I've found the odd bit of trivia lures people in over here - everyone thinks they know what has happened/is happening - 'but Robbie appeared as a hologram in the Ultimate Tour', 'but Robbie and Mark performed at Knebworth together', 'but Gary helped Mark write his solo album' - so easy to hook people on the complexities as opposed to the Daily Mail black and white story.
I get people texting me when Take That do/achieve something with 'hey, I saw that Take That are releasing an album/number one/on TV and I don't care but I thought of you' *g* Which, you know, I'd rather they cared too but I'm happy to take association.
I've partially tamed my Pros Big Bang rough draft and as a reward I'm contemplating writing a little TT ridiculousness. Not that I'm minding Pros, but it's so long and has a plot that has to be wrangled and loose ends caught and is set in reality and
doesn't have a Markie(heh, listen to me, my FPS is set in 'reality', my RPS isn't *g*).*sneakily sends encouraging plot bunny waves across ocean*
*g*

Date: 2011-06-21 01:25 am (UTC)I think the trivia will work with the friend I've already hooked completely. (I've recommended your fic to her as her next step. Soon she will be all ours!) I'm going to sling the other friend some of the more fun interviews, since that was a good chunk of what got me. Wossy to start, I think. *g*
'but Robbie appeared as a hologram in the Ultimate Tour
When I was watching the Ultimate Tour, I had no idea that Robbie had done that for them. It was surprising and touching, and just shows how much their narrative is not black and white.
It's cool that your friends take note of Take That events for you, even if they're not into it themselves. These things take time, yeah?*g*
And congrats on taming the Pros BB. I can empathize with the need for plot wrangling. I've got more than a bit of that to do myself. I have a beginning, and an ending, but getting them to meet up in the middle is proving challenging.
heh, listen to me, my FPS is set in 'reality', my RPS isn't *g*
That just the difference between the Pros lads and the TT lads in a nutshell, isn't it. *g*
*corrals the TT plot bunnies until she has a BB draft mostly done; but contemplates adding a Markie to the Pros story. hmmmmm*
(Seriously, though, I'm mulling over doing a story based on the I'll Wait for Life video next. Though that's going to be a project and a half. There's a lot of narrative packed in there, all very interesting.)

Date: 2011-06-21 08:27 pm (UTC)Thanks for the rec! *g* The interviews are fab - anything where you see the four/five of them I think draws anyone in.
I really need to watch IWFL video again, I never really have for some reason. But fic based on it would be utterly fab (I remember predominantly a very whumped looking Mark pulling himself out of the water... ah TT, fanservice par excellence *g*) - and you doing more fic would be generally fab anyway *g*
I think Mark would like Bodie. I think Mark would like Bodie a LOT. I think Bodie might find Mark a little... overwhelming... (OMG I'm now actually imagining this crossover, this is all your fault)
Although they might get on in other ways - have you seen this?
no subject
Date: 2011-06-21 11:04 pm (UTC)The IWFL video is just fantastic. There's so much potential for narrative and angst in it that it slays me every time. Why is Howard huddled at the side of a road? Who's chasing Jay? Why is Gary just sitting there in that car? And mostly importantly, who is knocking the crap out of poor!Markie!?!? (It's the shots of him getting knocked down in an abandoned lot by someone off screen, and then grimly getting up again that just do it to me every time. That and him being so very calm under the water.)
Mark and Bodie; now there's an encounter with a lot of potential. Oh, I may just have to have him make a cameo in my BB story. (I've sent Doyle to a convalescent home and they might encounter a certain someone as a physio.)
OMG I'm now actually imagining this crossover, this is all your fault
If you actually write this, I shall take the credit, not the blame. *g*
As for that advert, OMG! It's hilarious! I love clueless!Mark at the wheel. And Jason doing the bonnet slide! And Jason getting caught watching the pretty dancer, and Howard dragging him away! And Mark patting Gary's bum! (I can also just imagine Bodie and Doyle rolling their eyes at their driving. Hee.)
no subject
Date: 2011-06-21 11:29 pm (UTC)OK, I'm going to make watching my nice copy of that video (on the deluxe BW album thingy) another task for tomorrow! Then I can be ready! *g*
I love that advert for a million reasons (Jason doing the bonnet slide is the only thing in the same postcode of hot as Bodie doing the bonnet slide) and the fact that Mark fondling Gary's bum is the OFFICIAL advert just makes me want to hug them so much *g* I also love that during the 'acting' part, just as in the Sure video, Howard is clearly struggling not to crack up... *g* Plus I love anything that implies that they all live in one giant dreamhouse together (once more, in fact, like the Sure video *g*). Really hoping they do another winter special thing this year *crosses fingers*
I am ridiculously excited at the idea that in your BB story Bodie and Doyle will encounter Mark!physio, that's like the first time sometime suggested peanut butter and chocolate \o/
