I can belatedly report that we had a lovely time camping up in Killbear this past weekend. Ros and her friends had a lovely time, with only a few five-year-old-type tiffs, the adults also had fun, and there were no bears or rattlesnakes spotted. Though we talked to a few people in different areas of the park who were getting regular bear visits.

We did have a wicked rainstorm on Saturday night which kept me awake, because it was freaking loud, and kept the Sweetie awake, because he was stressed that our tarp wasn't going to hold and our tent would wash away, and kept Ros up...not at all. Oh to be five.

Tonight, I also belatedly followed your advice, my dear flist, and went to see Cowboys & Aliens with a pal. Oh, how could I doubt you all?! It's not art, but it is immensely entertaining. Daniel Craig in chaps goes a very long way. Plus, as a bonus, Clancy Brown was in it! I lurv Clancy Brown! I'm still no fan of Harrison Ford, though. He did better than he's done in years, but it still ain't good. Fortunately, he didn't have much to do but growl and look grizzled.

(cool story on) When I was 10-ish and we were living about 575 miles south of my hometown, my parents decided we would camp overnight on the way up to visit my grandparents, on the highest mountain in Arkansas. In a family-sized tent, the kind big enough that you can stand in them (this was 40 years ago.) Of course there was a horrendous thunderstorm in the middle of the night, and of course it rained hard enough that the water ran under the tent floor and attempted to lift the stakes and take us down the side of the mountain. My mother claims she spent the night rearranging sleeping children (there were three of us, 10, 7, and 2) trying to keep the tent in place. All three of us slept through it, including being shifted about like sandbags. (/cool story, bro)

I want to go see Cowboys and Aliens, but our schedule is packed right now and I fear it will disappear from the theaters before I get a chance.

Having occasionally had to shuffle one sleeping, small-ish 5-year-old, I feel for your mom. *g*

I can sympathize with the packed schedule (I don't know if I'm going to see the final Harry Potter in a theatre), but if you do see Cowboys & Aliens, I think you'll enjoy it.
