Just got back from an afternoon of playing doctor-x-rays-doctor-pharmacy.

The official word is...Rosalind has pneumonia. Yikes!

Fortunately it's mild, her energy is still pretty good, and she's on a massive dose of penicillin, so that's good. And her doctor says we can still go on the camping trip we planned for the weekend.

And now I shall do the "working at home" I'd had planned for the afternoon.

Wow. Be careful with pneumonia. When you have it once, it's easy to get it again.

Poor Roz.

Yeah, I know. (Viral pneumonia nearly killed my dad when I was 14.)

At least we know now why she just couldn't shake the cough, but I do wish the doctor had done x-rays the first time we took her.

She's mostly in good spirits, but has occasional freak out moments when she's just had enough of the coughing. And I don't blame her.

Eeeek! D: Oh, poor Ros! I hope she feels much better soon, bless her.

Thanks! The meds already seem to have calmed down the coughing a bit. Here's hoping that continues.

Eek! I'm glad you took her back to the doctor right away. My goodness. Here's to a quick (and complete) recovery! Poor Ros!

We went on Monday, and the doctor we saw said he thought it was nothing, but to bring her back in two days if she didn't get better. Today we saw her own doctor who went straight for the x-rays. She should be fine, but it's been a long few days.

Well that's horrible, but I'm glad to hear that her energy level is good and hope she'll make a swift recovery. ♥

I'm glad we've finally got the answer on what's wrong. There've been a few night where I was tempted to make a visit to the E.R. I'm hoping the meds knock it out of her quickly, though we've just started her nightly slide to feeling truly miserable. ::sigh::

Well, drats. But she's young and you're taking care of it so she'll be fine. My sister recently had it also. And if the doctor says camping is okay, he/she must feel Ros will tackle this well.

Her doctor said she's seeing it a lot this year. I'm sure she'll be fine, but in the meantime it's a whole lot of no fun.

You and me both.

Am seriously considering taking my icon's advice and breaking out the scotch.

I hope she feels better soon. I'm sure that working at home is so productive {g}

The working at home is oh so very productive. At least I know my boss is sympathetic. She was a single mom when her son was Ros' age, and she was the one suggesting I "work at home."

Pneumonia in healthy kids and adults is nothing to freak about nowadays, provided it gets diagnosed and medicated. A lot of docs will use "pneumonia" and "bronchitis" kinda interchangeably.

If she starts coming down with it nearly every time her allergies flare up or she gets a cold, then you might want to see an allergist to check for unknown allergen triggers or asthma. Uncontrolled asthma / allergies leave the lungs more susceptible to picking up a virus or bacteria when the rest of the immune system is fighting off seasonal allergies or a cold bug.

I know it's not that serious, it's just at the point where it's sort of exhausting. For everyone.

Watching out for the allergen triggers is a good suggestion, though. I've been increasingly afraid that this was the onset of asthma for her, so I'm definitely going to watch for recurrence.

Poor child. I hope she starts feeling better soon (just under 2 days if she's very lucky) - and is careful to keep taking the rest of the penicillin to wipe the bugs out properly instead of giving them a chance to stage a come-back.

We're hoping for improvement by tomorrow. And we're always very careful about finishing the course of antibiotics. I've got too many nurse/doctor/medical researcher mates to not know how necessary that is.

Thanks, Vic. She's definitely a bit better than yesterday, but it looks like it's going to take a few days for her to completely get over it. And in the meantime we're all knackered and still tentatively planning on going camping tomorrow. Yay?
